There was this little orange kitten, about 12 weeks that is completely wild. It has been living under someone's shed from birth and it's really fast and well, wild. I noticed it was under the shed and didn't want it to die with winter coming, so I decided I would catch him and care for him. His sister, whom I've named Dragon, was caught at 3 weeks and is now healthy and loving. But she was easier to train! Lol, I know that comes with age, so I've come here for advice.

I started with the bathroom, I left him (I say him but idk what the sex is) in the bathroom for a good 2 days before I came to the realization that he did not want to move, so I moved him to my study (I live in a 2 bedroom apartment until my fiance is done with her schooling) and completely dismantled his box, he walked under my desk and just sat there in a corner, he likes to corner himself.... Now, I took off my glasses and attempted to let him take the scent, he swapped my glasses and I came to the conclusion it was time to bond, I lied down and started talking to him, very soothing and calm, removing any stress or fear from my voice, while slowly blinking my eyes. Once No Name started to return the slow blink I offered my glasses once more, he smelt them and then gave me the wide eye look. I reached in to pick him up and all he offered was a hiss, no aggression or biting like when I caught him (but that was to be expected after catching a feral cat) he lets me hold him correctly, belly and feet to the floor, only supporting his back and front legs with one hand, slowly petting him under his chin and cheek. He loves that, but is still frightened to death, when I set him down he takes refuge under things and in corners... I love the little cat, but I wish he was more like his sister.

I introduced them to each other my means of food, I placed 2 bowls in front of me while I was holding no name and had my fiance, who's name just so happens to be Cat lol, bring Dragon to her feeding bowl, and I let down No Name and he went to smell Dragons head, went down licked her bowl, then slowly started walking back. There was no growling, hissing, aggression at all. The do not fight each other but No Name won't let anyone approach her, even doing my methods.

Am I doing this right? Should I be doing something different? I need some help! I want to give these 2 kittens, one being 9 weeks the other around 12 weeks, the best life ever. My other feral cat I found at 4 days but I was only 4 and my parents cared for it, Oliver (that cat) is now 15 and still as active as a kitten. They don't know what I should do with No Name because he's scared and it breaks my heart!

because you found no name later than the other cat, he's not accustomed to your way of life yet. it will take time, I mean it could be weeks or months before he fully comes around. I've worked in an animal shelter and my favorite cats were always the feral ones because I took it as a challenge to get them to come around and you know what? when they did, they became the most affectionate cats I've ever known. I had the added bonus of them always being in a kennel with nowhere to hide under so you might have a hard time getting him out from under things if he's not too confident, maybe try picking him up, scratching his chin and then put him on top of a shelf or the window sill so he can see outside. or try playing with him, give him something to chase (something he's already used to by being feral). whenever I had a hard time getting close to a cat, i'd sit next to him, not making eye contact, pick up a toy, and just rub their head and body with that toy. it actually helped them calm down cause they could see it wasn't my hand touching them like they feared. then after a while I would use one hand to stroke their face with the toy and the other hand to pet their bodies, it worked like a charm for me lol. hope I said something that might work for you :)

I was just about to post that she wasn't eating but I put some nice "expensive" wet cat food in front of her in a plate and she started chowing down, wouldn't even let me put the plate down, WOOT!! No name is adapting quickly :) BTW she doesn't play still, idk if I should be worried but she won't play at all.

Feral cats have to be taught to play. Understand that their life has been spent in survival mode. I would be surprised if No Name came in chasing bouncy balls and playing with teaser toys!

I second the above poster. It will take time for this kitten to adapt. Being around 12 wks old may mean that it will take longer. I took in a 5 wk old truly feral kitten (mother was feral, no human contact) and it took 8 wks having him inside for him to not hiss/spit at me, 4 months for him to not bolt when I walked in the room and he was 6 1/2 months old before he FINALLY came over to ME for attention. He is 7 1/2 months now and while he is still a bit skittish around new people he comes running to me when I go in his room, wants belly rubs and it doesn't even occur to him to grawl or hiss. He is a real sweetheart!

I'm surprised that this kitten is adapting so quickly, it's sitting in the other kittens play house at the moment and no name even ate right in front of me. He doesn't hiss at me, only ever did the night I caught him. He hasn't bit or scratched me, and I have held him a few times. He is even now looking at the toys almost ready to attack lol.

It took a few weeks before either of the adult strays we took in would play. Sounds like your new friend is doing pretty well! :)

:D I thought I would let everyone know, I have named her Princess, I was just laying down and she came and crawled on me!!! She went from wanting nothing to do with humans to crawling on me :) It happened after I gave her milk, Dragon started drinking it and Princess came up and started drinking too, now Princess is all sorts of lovey, I can't believe this

Good job!  She sounds like she's beginning to fit in.  When your world is turned upside down, it will take awhile to get reoriented.  Ask anyone who has survived a major storm or house fire.  That's about what cats feel like when they are taken from their original environment.  Even though the new home is a vast improvement, it only seems strange to them.

BTW - you might stop giving them milk.  Kittens can tolerate cow's milk but as cats grow older, they become lactose intolerant.  It can cause tummy troubles in most cats (although there are exceptions).

Thank you caring for all of them!  You're obviously doing things correctly.

Will do, by the end of that night she started purring and walked up to me and rubbed my hand and I was petting her for a long while on her cheek, chin and between the eye and ear area then some stupid dog went crazy outside and she ran back into the house I built for Dragon lol

Don't laugh here but I took my old Duel Sub Box and smashed out the bottom end, and stood it upright, stapled some carpet all on the inside and screwed in a ledge, then duct taped 2 boxes together shut, cut a large circle out of the bottom one, and a hole in the back top right so she could climb up to the second box and have a small piece of wood up at the top so she can look down on the entire room. She loves the little thing. I may be uploading pictures of everything for every one to see

It's equipped with 2 of the toys that have a stick and string, one hanging down from the box on top, and the other on the outer ledge I just recently screwed onto it, the outer ledge has a door hanging scratch post stapled onto that. and it's connected to a large box that has a smaller box inside of it that Dragon loves to crawl in. On that I took an old belt and secured a circle cat house thing on top of. It's a strange piece of work but it's pretty awesome.

Haha! Safe homemade houses built with love will go a long way to calming your wild kitties. I read your other thread and I have to say, what an inspiring story you have! Thank you so much for rescuing those two fur-babies. I'm so happy that Princess has started to come around, be patient and don't give up on her! As the other posters have said, ferals will take more time and love, but the reward is definitely worth it. We would love pictures!

I look forward to your posts!

That is pretty cool.  The kitties are adorable - I loved cuddling kitties.

None of my cats will cuddle or groom with one another - even the brothers and sisters.  The two boys will lay near one another on the bed but that's as far as their "bromance" goes.

Very cute.  They look like a yin-yang symbol.
