We didn't intend to have number 10 (and that's our limit), but when you get the phone call...
We got home very late from a Halloween party last night; I got to bed at 2:30 AM, and had 4 hours of sleep. I was just curling up on the sofa to nap 2 hours ago, when DH woke me up, "We have a problem." Huh? His cop friend was called out on a case; I'm not sure how the kitten figures into this. Anyway, he was obligated to call the local shelter, but was able to call someone he knows (?) affiliated with them, who I think knows what they are like (they're notorious for killing perfectly good animals), so they by-passed the shelter and called us to take the kitten. (That was the strangest phone call I ever got: "As far as anyone knows, Miss, you and I never had this conversation.") At least I think that's what happened!
DH picked up the baby. He/she is about 4-5 weeks old, a tuxedo coat. It was cared for and bottle-fed by some woman (I have her contact info), and is sleeping in the carrier, on the electric fireplace mantel, warming up nicely.
Did I mention that I LOVE black cats?????!!!?? I'm down to just one now, having lost 3 in the past few years. And just in time for Halloween, too!!!!
I am worried, though. Some of you may remember the Gandolf story from about 2 years ago, so I'm so afraid there will be a repeat of this, although he was near death (he had been shoved face-first into a pile of cow manure in order to kill him) when he arrived. Please keep your fingers crossed for this baby. Thanks.
Of course, now that DH has taken a new job, with a big pay cut, a new mouth to feed is not something we need, but how can I say "No"? They thought the shelter would put him to sleep.
