My one kitten is 6 months old. She was just spayed, weighs 6.5lbs and I believe is almost done growing. She eats like a slob and am worried about the weight gain. She gets half canned food as well. Is it safe to just put her on adult food now?
You can switch to adult food now if you like. In fact, I have never fed kitten food to an actual kitten. Just an all-stages food, in larger amounts. If you haven't yet, you might also want to consider switching to timed meals (especially if you are concerned about weight gain.)
She already is on timed meals, but she eats like a slob and still needs more in order to top off her growing. So if I switch to adult food I can feed the same amount but shes getting fewer calories
Sugar and Spice didn't stop growing until they were a year old. I let them eat kitten food until they mostly stopped eating it. I think they were about 9 months old when they showed a preference for the adult food.
You may think she has stopped growing, but don't be surprised if she has a growth spurt. She is still a teenager in human years.
The kitten food is high protein and fat, im afraid with the amount she is eating if I keep her on it shes going to gain a ton of weight. Shes a kitten still and needs a lot but with adult food I can feed her the same amount as the kitten food and not need to worry about the weight gain as its lower in calories, protein and fat content
