Hi!
So my cat is turning 2 years old-probably next month.
And I remember quite well this January she was in heat almost everyday. So in the very same month, I had to send her to someone else who is already raising a male cat.
The good news is they're getting along and often together wherever they go.
But till now I received no news from the owner that my cat's being pregnant. And no news either about her making those noises she used to make when in heat. Although I follow up with the owner, she already agreed to notify me whenever she finds any interesting signs from my cat.

I'm not in rush though but I'm curious to know how others went through this. I mean can it take that long? Or could she simply be unready? And how long shouldn't she stay not pregnant?

I can't find anyone addressing this issue anywhere so I'd really appreciate to hear your feedback.

The reason this site has a Pregnant Cats and Kittens section is because (now correct me if I am wrong)

1) People foster/rescue pregnant cats.

2) Newborn kittens can be abandoned by their mothers. Posters do rescue newborn kittens and often seek advice about bottle feeding, medical issues, etc.

3) Unfortunately unplanned litters happen.

Chaajo, if your cat is not spayed yet and if you don't have breeding rights for her... I strongly encourage to spay her. Being in heat everyday is very uncomfortable for the cat, not to mention the chances of having severe medical problems increase with every call.

Thank you for clarification guys.
pinkman, but my cat is not in heat right now. Actually after she stayed with the other cat, she stopped making noises or showing any signs of heat.

I thought this had to do more with her behavior which is why I posted this thread here. I guess the heading wasn't clear or seemed irrelevant.
I'll try posting this in pregnancy section though as Cynbarrie suggested.

To avoid any misunderstanding, I'm now aware this is a pro-spay and neuter site. I'm not seeking for medical advice for enhancing pregnancy and like that. I only would like to hear from anyone who experienced my situation and how they handled it.

I've moved your thread from the Behavior section.

Are you a registered breeder?

If you are not, please spay your cat. As has already been stated this is a pro spay and neuter site.

From the Forum Rules:

3. This is a pro-spay-and-neuter website. Please make sure to spay and neuter your cats. Unless you are a professional breeder and your cat is part of a professional breeding program, please educate yourself to the importance of spaying and neutering by the time your cat is 4-6 months old. If you take care of a feral colony, please make sure to do so responsibly by practicing TNR (Trap, Neuter, Release) protocols within the colony.

Agreeing with the others - if you arent a breeder, reconsider strongly your fancy for a litter...   Go on ONLY if it is really important for you, and you had thought through all the details.

And pay for it in some way.  For example by adopting a homeless cat.  Or help and foster some. OR donate some money and gears to a shelter nearby who works with homeless cats.

To your question.  She  is fertile since january.  She is together with,  as far as you know, a fertile tom, several months now, and still no pregnancy, not even heat.

HAD they mated?  What tells the host?  Some cats arent really interested in each other.  Also, cats living togehter dont always ignite on each other.  That is why some breeders can have their females and studs togehter (risky of course, as this is a very unsure preventive methods,  but it happens).

The trick is to have them in a mating chamber, a smallish room, so they do understand something especial is meaning to happen...   Have a couple of shelves there, so they can get from each other if they wish - most important the male can flee there after the mating.

Also, some extra vitamine E is not wrong, especially to the female.

Bth, are there other cats?   A dominant other cat may press down the urge to mate "they arent allowed".   Again, isolation from disturbances is the key...

IS the tom fertile?  Some gets fertile already as kittens, 5-6 months.  Others develop later, especielly in long hair breeds...  It may be almost two years before they are fertile - AND mature enough to know what to do.

It happens also one of them may be infertile.  But it wouldnt not explain she is not in heat.

One far fetched possibility, is, she isnt in heat because he understands immediately the heat is coming on, mates.

(mating between good friends goes often quickly and easily.  It is the very frist mating which is most shrieking and chasing the male with)

She get either in false pregnancy, OR goes in pregnancy, but there are no kittens resulting, they get resolved in her, or aborted early....   Ie, she or the pair, are in practice sterile, at least, sterile with each other.

As you see, there are several possiblilities,   Talk again with the host, and hear what she tells and sees, it will give se answers to some ot these varialtions above.

Good luck!
