I know the joys of giving a cat a bath and so I normally do not do it. However today we were able to check out the kitten and pet him today. We wrapped him in a blanket and then he calmed down and stretched out and we observed that his bottom is just nasty.

Now he is still nervous around us and so I am not sure if this is a good idea or not. He will still hiss at us until we wrap him up and start petting then he purrs loud!

We also discovered he has a black face, black legs, black tail and a silver body. And we have decided to keep him!

Oh, he sounds pretty.  Maybe you can use wipes, rather than a whole bath.  Try it and see what happens.  Don't use baby wipes - I think the chemicals in them might not be good if he ingests anything while grooming.  Just a paper towel or wash cloth with warm water should be enough.

I've used a microfibre cloth wet through with plenty warm water then pretty well wrung out - you could use a nice big one and wrap your kitty up in it to get a warm all over rub if it likes to be wrapped up and cuddled.  It cleans the fur really well and lifts off loads of the oil in the fur at the same time so it comes up really shiny when it dries!
Way less distressing than a full on bath and it doesn't take so long to dry out so less chance of a younger cat / kitten or a frail cat getting chilled.
