I'm not happy about having to buy online, but my pet store doesn't have any suppliers that can get it in and I'm not sure I'm comfortable breaking open human pills for my cats. So I'll get myself a disposable credit card, and get my boy the meds he's doing so well on.....Now the question is-which one's the best option for him? one's a little cheaper than the other, but I already have him on Viralys and he's doing well..so I'm not sure if saving money is relevant or not? Is there a quality factor between brand names when buying l-Lysene?Also, it looks like the cheaper one might be made by the same company?

This is what he's on now, only in paste form:

This one's a bit cheaper, partly it looks because the dosage is lower?

It looks to me like both brands contain the same amount (250mg) per dose, so it shouldn't matter. My vet even told me I could go to a people person vitamin store and get the powder. It's the same enzyme and usually cheaper. I still buy the ones marketed for cats because I'm a nervous mom.

Also thanks for those links. It's actually cheaper than where I'm buying from

If you can order from Amazon (and if the cat doesn't mind the taste)   is pretty good for the price. It's just pure L-Lysine that you can mix with your cat's food. I currently give my herpes kitten 500mg twice a day, mixed into his food. He doesn't mind the taste, which I'm super glad.

Thanks for that, I do actually have an Amazon account, because of the kindles, so I wouldn't have to worry about sharing credit card info with new and potentially unsecure sites. I'd rather have my number in as few places as possible.  :)  (I'm a little paranoid about internet safety lol)

Not only that, the NOW brand is PURE l-lysine, no additives.

Ditto!  I buy the same stuff and give in the same dose.  I mix it in their food and they don't seem to notice it's there.

Does it have a taste ? I don't always make sure it's mixed real good, I mean I do, but if it's got a taste I will watch closer.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
The plain L-lysine (like NOW powder) is very salty. But my cats ate it just sprinkled on top of their canned food. Now that we're feeding raw, they won't eat it, even mixed in. I guess canned food has a strong enough taste to hide that saltiness. Raw is more subtle. So now I give them VetriLysine treats (that I buy from Amazon). They only have 125mg of lysine per treat though (if I'm remembering correctly). If you need the full 1,000mg flare-up dose, they're quite expensive to use (though I believe overall cost less than they enisyl stuff).

... On the other hand, my cats hate the VetriLysine treats (even after creating a powder out of them) and love the NOW L-Lysine. So it really depends, I guess. I also feed raw for my cats.

Does one of your kittys have the herpe virus ? My 64 does, I'd like to chat some if yours do. Thanks
Not sure who you directed this question to, but yes, one of my kitties has it.  It's a shame--she's a beautiful white cat with one blue eye and one green one.  But she often has those drippy eyes so you can't always see how pretty her eyes are.

Molly also has IBD.  So she's a nervous cat with some health issues and consequently is frequently stressed--so the infection stays pretty chronic.  I just clean her eyes every day and give her lysine to try to keep it under better control.  It's definitely better than it was when we got her 8 months ago.

I had lysine treats at first--I can't remember the name.  Molly loved them but the dose of lysine wasn't very high so I got the powder.

It upsets me 64 is sick, I mean she has the virus, she is just the sweetest baby ever...I hate to see her in pain and her eye all red...but we're a one kitty family and it's just me and my husband so her stress should be real low. We are going on vacation over the holidays, but we are taking her, I hope the ride and staying somewhere new doesn't upset her, I just couldn't bare leaving her at my daughters house..I love waking up to her.

Not to hi-jack this thread from Lysine Talk but have you thought about a pet sitter that will do overnights? I really do believe that in most cases it's better to get a pet sitter and leave the cats at home than to travel with them (especially if they are prone to not feel great/stressed)

I don't have anyone that would stay at my house for 7 days, so I fiqure instead of leaving her at a strange place with strange people. it would be better to take her with us, then she will be in a strange place but with us.

Fair enough. :) Make sure you bring things that smell like your home - a used small blanket/towel/something so she can be comfortable.
