Hi, i'm new to this site and have a question.  My new 7 month old Kitty (Molly) is letting off some really bad stinkbombs that i can't hardly stomach.  I started feeding her "Iams" for kittens.  Honestly, it's wicked and really bothers me.  Any suggestions on a known food that won't cause this?  Also, I noticed that her left ear is tipped.  Does this mean that she is spayed?  AND lastly, i'm not sure she is a she.  If a male is neutered, how do i tell?  Seems silly but i really don't know.  Thanks, Katyellen

Changing food definitely can lead to gas, if it continues you may want to change again. Nervousness will lead to it too, is she scared of something, or new to anything? A lot of animals have gas when they eat any form of 'people' food too, once again a 'change' of diet. As to the sex, I'm sure there are some sights that could 'show' you what to look for, at 7 months your kitten should still have the skin that the testicles were in under his tail. A tipped ear usually means that the kitten has been neutered or spayed. A male usually has a little round 'hole ' in the back where he urinates, a female has a 'slit'. It's kind of hard to sex a kitten when they are young, your vet should be able to help.

My 13 year old was the same when he was a kitten. And of course he chose my pillow to sleep on. His was from his canned food and when he got used to it the gas went away. How long ago did you switch to Iams?

I've only had her for one week and that is what my moms cats eat so i bought it for her.  I will give it alittle more time to see if she gets used to it...that is if i survive!  Really, i litterally have to leave the room.

Thanks so much.  I will give her alittle more time.  I got her from the animal shelter and they didn't give me much info.  I paid more and they told me to get her fixed and i could get a refund but when i got home i noticed that her left ear was tipped and learned via the net that she is probably already spayed.  So now i just need to get her to a vet for some shots and find out for sure whether she is a she or not...lol  She is skittish and runs anytime someone moves suddenly.  She has really warmed up to me and loves to be brushed and scratched.  I think she was a stray and possibly has been in a shelter before because i'm sure they wouldn't have told me to get her fixed if they did it.  I really am falling for this kitty...even though she is afraid of alot of things.  I just need to be patient.

One week isn't a long time. She'll get more comfortable as time goes on. And if they didn't give you any food to slowly transition her to the iams then be glad you just have stinkbombs and not diarrhea. A sudden switch in food could be the cause and if that's it then things should settle down as she gets used to it.

Yeah, i just tried checking her and i think she is a girl...It's really hard to see past all her long hair, but i think I saw a slit down there. Her hair has got to be 2-3 inches on her back and so i make it a point to brush her daily because i already cut two mats out.
