Very strange neuter day for Yoda. Any thoughts here??

One of my fosters has Yoda, a cute, small boy, 3 months old.

He is also my first experience of a bottle baby being allergic/intolerant of kmr.

Anyway, when she picked him up after his neuter today, he was knocked out cold, they had just finished with him.

They said he was a rare case, that they could not find his testicles or his penis, yet Yoda was sporting some decent sized testes from what can be seen :)

Now I understand about cryptorchids, although uncommon, (approx 2%) but to not find a penis? What's up with that?

They gave her instructions for him, no cat litter for a week, use beans.

I just can't figure out why he is so out of it, in so much pain, I mean wouldn't it be closer to a kitten spay?

Anyone know more than I do about this?

Thanks.

We had a cryptoorchid hermaphrodite who'd been spayed before we got "her". "She" had an extremely small deformed penis which her previous owners hadn't even noticed, presumably because of the undescended testicles. The wife was foreign and didn't understand what the vet who'd spayed the cat explained to her about hermaphroditism. The castration surgery was pretty extensive. IIRC, I dropped her off at 7 a.m. and picked her up at around 6:30 p.m., when the anesthesia had worn off, but not completely. She was still a bit groggy, and was on painkillers and had house arrest for several days. In the case of cryptoorchidism, the surgeon often has to hunt around for the testicles, so surgery can be worse than a normal spay.

Hmm, so the more extensive probing could be causing Yoda's pain?
What an unusual little boy Yoda is! He's given you some interesting experiences. I hope he heals up soon from his surgery. :vibes:

Reminds me of a little dog I knew. "She" went in for a spay and they discovered undescended testicles. The owner later kept them in a jar to taunt male guests with! :lol3: That's the only hermaphrodite dog I've ever met, and I'm assuming it's equally rare in cats.

Not to go too much off topic, but ZsaZsa was the second hermaphrodite I'd encountered. We had to dissect cats in an anatomy class, and the guys who shared a table with my lab partner and me had what at first glance was a huge orange tomcat. Closer inspection revealed that he also had all the "female plumbing".

Are there any updates on Yoda?

Funny, Pushylady's comment, what an unusual little boy Yoda is, makes me smile, as I had the very same thought, and how his name sort of 'fits'

He had a rough-ish night, whiny, finally falling asleep in his fosters neck :)

Today he is okay, but still quite groggy, which is different imo, they must have zapped him with an extra dose of anesthesia...(?) Usually kittens come back from s/n pretty good, some are back to spunky fast, adults are out of it for a day or so, but this guy, at 9:30 this am he could hardly hold his head up, swaying side to side sluggishly, but is sure after those stitches! (clumsily)

I instructed his foster mom to make a soft fabric cone. Much easier to deal with than the hard cones from the vet.

The vet (spca) called this am to check on his as well, I guess they expected him to be out of it still.

So far so good :)

Thanks for all the vibes!!

He is different, I highly suspect he has other issues, not yet found. His smaller size (just reached 2 lbs and is 13 weeks) allergy to kmr (a first for me!) and now this......cute as a bug though :)

Yoda is doing quite well now, seems to be recovering just as if he was spayed :)

Thanks all for your support.
