Considering your kitten is still a kitten, training him should be on the easier side. Expose the kitten to the birds and watch carefully! Teach the kitty to "look, but not touch"

It doesn't always work though, but lots of patience and care!

Be very careful with kitty around the birds and remember cats are natural predators of birds.  It's their natural instinct to *catch them*.  I wouldn't let the birds out unless you're always there to monitor the cats behavior around them.  Good luck and hopefully somehow you can make it work.

Oh.. Forgot to mention! Cat spit is poisonous to birds. Don't let your cat lick them either

When Linda moved in with my husband and I she brought a yellow napped amazon parrot with her. We introduced all the babies and they got along great. The cats mostly ignored the bird unless he was tossing stuff on to the floor. Pet amazons don't fly very much but one day he flew to the floor right in front of Clara. Clara who had been much closer to the bird than that many times attacked. Hilarity did not ensue, feathers and cat blood was all over the place and it was over in less than a second. Bird - 1 Cat - 0. When we recovered and tended to both the babies we realized that normally the cats would not mess with the bird but at anytime something could "trigger" the cats attack reflex and things might not work out as well next time. We took the time to find a home for the bird, one where he had lots of attention and was loved. We get a Christmas card every year.

Lesson, Cats and birds can get along great but they still have wildness in them that can come out with no warning and bad things might happen. It can work out, we have seen bird shops with several cats roaming with no problems. We just didn't want to take the chance. I am sure you will be able to come up with a solution that is right for you.
