Below is the guaranteed analysis and ingredients for Merrick Purrfect Bistro Duck Pate. I calculate 17.7% carbs. But which ingredients are the carbs? I see cranberries and alfalfa. Is this were the majority of the carbs comes from? It doesn't seem like one could add a lot of cranberries and alfalfa without creating bad tasting cat food.

It's kind of amazing just how many carbs a little alfalfa can add, not to mention the cranberries.  I'm guessing that's where they are coming from.

Merrick said they were "improving" their "BG 96% Beef/Chicken/name your protein" with the new "name your protein" Pate, but before, they were extremely low in carbs, and Callie liked them, now she won't touch them

Alfalfa, craberries, and I believe binders such as guar gum also contain carbs. A quick google search has led me to this information:
Guar gum
