I just found this little girl (seen in my avatar) Autumn, a week ago when she ran in front of my car across a busy 3 lane highway!

We took her to the vet who said that aside from being malnourished (8ozs at an estimated 4 weeks old), she's perfectly healthy. We guess she is feral, but she has adjusted really well to our 750 sq ft apt. She picked up using the litter box in a day, with only 5 or so accidents in a week (that we can tell). Hopefully that is a good success rate? We see her use the litter box about 3-4x/day, but she is alone for about 5 hours each day. She's super playful, is gentle, wildly intelligent and vocal...very vocal.

Our apartment has an open floor plan, and she has figured out that kitchen = food. Whenever one of us goes into the kitchen she will follow us, sit on the floormat and meow (beg) for food. This can go on for up to two hours nonstop and only because there hasn't been a time where we've been in the kitchen for longer. She does this even if she has just eaten.

Autumn is also pretty bad when we are eating on the couch or in any place that is accessible to her. She will practically scale us and jump into our food if she could.

What are some ways in which we could start correcting this bad behavior? I've ignored her (though it's really hard because she's so cute) and put her in the bathroom (but she still meows). Thanks for any suggestions!

Thank you so much for rescuing this cutie. I'm familiar with the roads in Northern Virginia: yup, a death trap for any four-legged animal, large (deer) or small (squirrel).
How long have you had her/she's had you? She may still be malnourished, in which case, she should eat as much as she wants.
You might try timed feedings: put out as much as you/your vet thinks is sensible and then remove the food in, say, 30 minutes. I know about the meowing for food, it is hard to resist. I'm having the same issue/problem with Ritz (four years old, abandoned at five months old, dumpster-dived for food). I try to detach, just say no, reassure myself and her that she's had enough food for the day. Also, periodically go into the kitchen, do 'make work' (like putting away dishes, washing dishes you've already washed) and then leave. So Kitty doesn't equate all the time that kitchen = food.
Also, what are you feeding her? And how many times a day are you feeding her? The general recommendation for kittens is four times a day, smallish meals. (You can eat two bags of Fritos but still feel hungry because Fritos don't have all the nutritients you need.)
Get good quality food (search the Nutrition forum for good ones) and water it down if necessary.
Finally, you might search the Pregnant Cats and Kitten Care forum for more helpful information.
Good luck, and again, thank you for rescuing this cuttie.

Thanks for the response!

We found her running across Rt 1 right at the 495 exit on Oct 15.  She's about 1lb now.

We feed her about 4-5 smallish meals a day. For the first week we gave her 3 meals of 1 spoonful of wet food (http://pets.petsmart.com/brands/simply-nourish/wet-cat-food.shtml) and 2 meals were she would drink a few tbsp of milk formula from a can (http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4328594&f=PAD/psNotAvailInUS/No)

Now she's off the formula and just eating the wet food 3-4x/day. We are starting to introduce her to kibble too since she loves running off with any dog kibble we drop on the floor (http://pets.petsmart.com/brands/simply-nourish/dry-cat-food.shtml). We mixed a little bit of kibble (<10 pellets) with a spoonful of wet food for her for the first time last night. Unfortunately she had some diarrhea after eating it :(

I've pretty much been ignoring her meows when I'm in the kitchen and we have pretty set times for when she gets fed. But this kitty is seriously so greedy lol. ANYTHING that falls on the ground gets ninja-eaten by her. Chicken, vegetables, bread, chips, you name it. She even licked up mustard on the floor. She is not discriminating at what she will eat. I am pretty sure that if i just left a bowl of kibble/wet food, she will eat all of it in one sitting.

Thanks for the advice and resources, I'll check them out. She's due for a vet visit soon in 2-3weeks.
