Hi so my poor sophie is having some skin problems. She has red bumps on her back, and some missing fur in those areas and on the back of her hind legs. Our vet in covinced that this is still due to a severe skin allergy to fleas. She has already been treated for fleas twice, is an indoor cat, and we only have the one pet. She is back on flea meds and predisolone. It has helped somewhat, it has gone down in size and redness, however she still has alot of them, and continues to bite and scratch at them.

I was hoping for another opinion from fellow cat owners. has anyone ever had thier cat(s) have flea allergys or bumps that you thought was fleas?

Yep. We went through something similar at my house recently. All the cats, except Bob, were just itchy and generally annoyed from the fleas. Bob was a red, bumpy mess and she overgroomed so much, she pulled out a lot of fur :( We called her little baboon butt because her rear was almost completely bald. It sucked watching her be so miserable.

The bad news is that the fleas can take several months to be totally eradicated. The eggs get everywhere, and when they hatch, it feels like you are starting over from the beginning again. As long as you use a quality flea med and apply it on schedule, the fleas will all be dead and gone eventually. Vacuuming often with a flea collar in the vacuum bag will help some.

I wish I knew something to help ease Sophie's itching. Nothing we tried really helped Bob. The good news is her fur grew back in quickly and she is back to her lovey little self. Hopefully someone else will come along with a good, safe skin soothing remedy.

You might want to check Sophie's bum after she poops for small, rice like bits. Animals can get tapeworm from ingesting an infected flea. Don't worry though - it's easy to get rid of with a pill from the vet.
I hope your little girl is feeling better soon.

Thanks happybird, for you insight. I have looked at her poop, and dont see anything like that. I even sent her poop in to be analyzed, and she dosent have any parasites, which seems odd if shes doing nothing but eating said fleas.

well she has two more months of the flea meds our vet gave us to give to her, so hopefully by the end of all that she will be flea free. Like you said its just really hard seeing her so miserable.
