(I'm covering for -aj- today, so I'll try to pose as interesting of a question as she does.)

What was the best present you ever received?COLOR]
And why?

Ritz. My friend rescued her and her litter mates the day after Christmas. Best Christmas Present Ever.
I'd never had a pet before (I grew up with dogs) and both Ritz and I learned how to be more human, trusting, together.

My best present ever was my very first horse named Echo.  She was my 27th birthday present.  I sure do miss her too.  I used to sleep next to her in the barn.  That was many years ago now, but I still think of her often and the rides we used to take together through the woods.

Actually my best gift was a horse as well!
We had sixteen horses when I owned the farm in Indiana. Echo was my little baby though. If I could have brought her inside the house I would have. I stayed in the barn with her a lot of times while we napped together in the straw. Now I live in suburbia Massachusetts...I miss the days on the farm, but not the work. Echo's gone home to horse heaven... Sure hope we see them all again someday...wouldn't that be wonderful. :wavey:

Hmm....  I'll go with my telescope.  It's not a fancy one or anything and I don't have the time to use it I'd like; but wow it was such a surprise. I'd always wanted one but never thought to ask.  Never mentioned buying one.  DH just knew I loved to look at the stars.  It means so much more when its something like that!

Probably the Nexus 10 tablet that's currently in the mail. I love buying myself gifts, never disappointed, hahaha!

My father was an amateur astronomer. He subscribed to Sky & Telescope and built his own telescope (so heavy he had to first lay a concrete foundation). He also photographed the sky.
I have fond memories of him cueing up the lense so I could see Mars and other planets.

When I recieved my Jack Russell puppy when I was 10 years old - she would be in my life for the next 15 years, until her passing just this past September
  she was a birthday present.

Rest assured, I researched on dogs for almonst a year prior to recieving her!  Especially reading up on the JRT breed heavily, which I personally adored. Also worked as a dog walker, and grew up with German Sheperds.

My next one was also a Bday present, few years later - my horse, Mannerheim! He was only two at the time :)

I had a couple of other really wonderful presents that I loved and appreciated - seeing Celtic Thunder live, going to the ballets, a new saddle and bridle and so forth. But of course, my animals have a special place in my heart!

Ohhhhh hard to choose. I guess the first that came to mind was my chemistry set as a kid, then later on my first car. It was an old car, but was still happy with it!

When I was 13, we went to pick up my first two kittens. They were my Christmas present that year! They're definitely the best present ever. It was a long drive and I was so impatient to see them
They're still here with me, along with another cat!

You know had I been asked this a year ago, I probably would have said something like "the diamond earrings my ex gave me" or "the stereo I got when I turned 16" - as both were kind of monumental gifts to me at that time.

But I'm going with animals too.  We got Cocoa at Chanukah/Christmas time last December and she really has been the best gift I could have given myself, and the best anyone allowed me to have.  As I get older, I tend  not to place as much value on objects.

Difficult for me to say, too. Right now, I think I'd have to say my Nook. Why? Because the Nook has opened up a whole world for me, as silly as that may sound. I love to read and you will always find me with my nose in a book.....or a Nook. I love my Nook because I can get online and grab a book from the library any time. Day or night. Doesn't matter if there's a foot of snow outside, doesn't matter if it's 2:00 in the morning....I can find something to read. And the list of free books is endless. I can use it to get online to go anywhere I want to go. From the couch, from the kitchen table. From under the warm electric blanket on my bed. When you really think about it, that's pretty cool.

I use to read DTB (dead tree books) until I got my Kindle Keyboard. (Thinking of buying a new Kindle Fire, but that's a topic for another thread!)
Anywho: I would borrow the DTB from the library and set it on my end table, next to the sofa. Ritz would jump up onto the sofa and sniff the book, sometimes nudge it open with her nose, like she was reading it.
I told myself if she knocked it off the sofa, then the book isn't worth reading!

Our cats were kind of our Christmas present to each other, since we adopted them in December. So I'd have to say that Swanie and Cindy have been the gift that keeps on giving
