Tonight I made chili in the pressure cooker. Not too impressed!

I had to do it in stages because the machine won't pressurize if more than 1/2 full with food.  And that's pretty much down to the gram. A smidge over and it won't pressurize!

Anyway, I cooked the beans first, then put them in a strainer in the sink.

Then I cooked everything else. The ground beef was frozen.

I had a hard time getting it to get to pressure. I ended up having to take out 1 cup of liquid/food.

The recipe states that if you use frozen hamburger, that you have to break it up with a spoon.  Well, that's not so easy. I ended up with huge chunks of ground beef about the size of ping pong balls! It would have taken forever to try and break it up like it would be when you cooked it from unfrozen state in a fry pan.

And because the beans were not cooked with the tomato mixture, it just doesn't work.

So I'll stick to using my slow cooker for chili!!

I always use my crock pot for chili.....I like the fact that it takes hours and hours to do chili. Some things just seem to taste better when it takes it a long time to cook. Chili is one of those recipes.

When I have to use frozen ground beef, I'll thaw it out in a plastic colander in the microwave. It has a Compu-Defrost button and I can set it for the weight of the ground beef. I check it regularly to make sure it's not actually cooking.

I was up and down all night with stomach cramps and gas. Felt so bloated today. Never had that with my slow cooker chili.

I froze the chili into 1 cup portions.  Doubt I'll be eating it. I'll leave it there for some desperate times!  LOL
