Why is this safer form of selenium not in cat foods but in supplements?

I am not sure exactly what you are asking. Which supplements are you referring to? Why is selenium yeast safer than selenium? What is the concern about selenium?

Dogs foods have been converting over to selenium yeast from the toxic forms and was curious why dry cat foods don't have it. Well the FDA hasn't approved it yet for cats only dogs. Every other country in the world uses selenium yeast.

What I did find out is that Champion uses it in Orijen and Acana despite the fact it is not allowed.

I have asked several people in AAFCO about this and they say it is not allowed in cat food.

Yes I have seen that. The EU has approved it for all species but the idiots here have not.

I am curious how Champion gets away with it.

Orijen and Acana are both Canadian foods (according to their website).

Also, for the heck of it, I just looked up Evo, and Selenium is not even listed at all in their ingredients listing, however, it IS listed in their Nutrient Analysis, which makes me wonder if they are not adding anything at all, but getting it from the actual protein source
.

Either way, IMHO, this is just one more reason to feed canned or raw versus dry

No No No..Champion's biggest market is the USA and Orijen and Acana are the two best selling super premium cat foods in the USA.

They just take chances that state AAFCO officials take the food off the shelves.

That may be, but they are located in Edmondton, Alberta, Canada.    http://www.championpetfoods.com/contact/
