So Boo the stray cat that arrived on my deck with a broken pelvis has finished his 3rd week of quiet time recovery. It will be 4 weeks next weekend!

He seems to have settled into a routine of rest in his little room and selects either his purr pad by the closet door or the purr pad underneath the computer desk.  The feliway diffuser I think might be helping with his general sense of mellow.

He has a fantastic appetite and his belly is no longer tight feeling. He's urinating a normal amount. The pooping is occurring but he is still producing mostly the balls of poo, indicating that the stools are still harder than they should be. He's had a few normal appearing stools as well.

I mix some water with his canned food and add the miralax which is keeping things regular. I'm also using a rubber bristle hair brush to massage his sides and tummy which seem to help get things moving along. We have learned that he has quite the palate. Wellness Core chicken and the duck, Evo duck, Merrick's Grammy's Pot Pie and Cowboy BBQ.

His gait has greatly improved and if we didn't have the x-rays to show otherwise, one would never know he was healing from a broken pelvis (3 breaks).

He's a fastidious litter box user and a sweet little guy.

Next week I'm out of town for a week, and the fella will take over Boo watch as well as managing the rest of the herd.  After that, we'll take him back to the vet for more x-rays and the neuter and shots they should have done rather than assuming I'd just put him down.

The other cats come to the door to sniff. Simone softly hissed at the door but didn't today. Boo seems indifferent to the cats at the door.

We played a light game of cord today. He batted around a shoe lace with his front paws. Then let me rub his belly.

Here he is. He's ready for supper and would like me to concentrate on that rather than taking a picture. You can see the bend in his tail, but he has full use and feeling in his tail.  The way he walks in the room, you would never know he has a fractured pelvis. He's growing tired of his isolation.

That is absolutely brilliant news about Boo and what a handsome boy he is. Full credit to you for the marvellous care you have obviously given him. I love a happy ending [emoji]128512[/emoji]

I've been away from the computer for a few days, it's so good to come back to good news.  He's a very lucky kitty to have found you.

Yes, he's a very attractive little kitty.  It looks like he is very engaging. I think you found a keeper.

Thanks all. He is a special cat. He's also seemed to have the eating and the results functions down too. All appears normal.  Today I saw that the curtains in the window had been pulled down though...so he's starting to be mischievous. I'm sure he's bored. Tonight I let him walk the short hall outside of the room and he handles the non-carpet floor very well. No slipping in the hip.

When we consulted with the vet surgeon she had him do that on the floor of the exam room and he had quite a hard time keeping his right rear leg from slipping. This time---totally normal.

I worry that he'll start climbing stuff. So I wavier between making sure he doesn't have any obstacles to fall on or get entangled versus blocking off access to higher places.

I'd have him just be upstairs but there are other cats and I don't want them chasing him down the stairs or...heaven forbid...tackling him. He enjoyed a full body kitty massage tonight and let me include his hips (no pressure and just gently going over his backside with my hands). The youngest of my cats is annoyed and hisses at me when I go down to visit. The others are aware but seem indifferent.

5th week!  Tomorrow I call to set up an appointment to get Boo checked out and then also to get him neutered and vaccinated. Those things were supposed to have been done initially but they didn't go beyond the initial x ray because of the attending vet's opinion on the pelvis breaks.

Boo is doing really well. He pees like a champ. He poops like a champ.  He eats like a small horse. He's no longer emaciated and might actually be just right, weight wise. He's dined on Wellness Core, Merricks, and his favorite: Stella and Chewy's freeze dried food.  He's itching to get out of his room and so we let him accompany us to the laundry room. There have been visits by other cats to his door and cautious in the same proximity encounters with a few others of the house.  Of course, the first thing he does is pee in one of the resident cat's litter boxes. ha.

He's sort of unsure and chirps. He knows the other cats and I'm sure is wondering what the reception will be.  Two are indifferent (one of whom is his most frequent door visitor). And 2 are pretending he isn't there. And two are displeased. There was hissing and growling by two resident cats and then he gave a less enthusiastic hiss in response.  Scooter was curious about him but I didn't want their first face to face including displaced aggression from Boo to Scoo (I didn't think Boo would end up as part of the household or I would have thought through that name issue first).

Later when Boo returned to his room, Etta and Simone hissed at each other and then were crankily looking over their shoulders at anyone else that got near them.

Anyway it was a big day for Boo and afterwards he was super quiet in his room. This is the most talkative cat I've ever met. He reminds me of a Siamese that way so the quiet afternoon was unusual. When I went to feed him supper, Scooter followed me down but when he saw the door open, and Boo right there, he chugged down the hall and disappeared up the stairs. Scooter is a lover not a fighter. :-)

The intros will take some more time it seems. Anyway, I'm hoping this is the last week of confinement. He has no hesitation on the stairs, no limp, no sign whatsoever of the kitty who dragged himself to our house 5 weeks ago. I have to say I'm super irritated with the vet practice for not taking care of the neutering initially. It's a practice that caters to cats. One of the vets, who I seem to get more often than the other two, simultaneously acts like we are stupid people and writes off geriatric and injured cats very quickly. That's cranky vet. The head office manager is also a pill. The other two vets are great and the other office staff are fine.  However I realize I must shop for a different vet for a couple of other reasons.

Aw, thanks for the great update!  (Minus the comment about the vet.)  Boo is definitely a trooper after all that he has been through, and it's so great to hear how well he is recovering. He has eyes like my Sebastian.

Happy to hear about your kitty. I found mine at the dump. Someone had put it there one evening. He was so tiny. That was almost a year ago. Took him 2 the vet, had necessary shots. His name is Taboo, I call him booboo. He loves me 2 rub his belly!

How wonderful Boo is recovering so well and he owes his life to you! You are a truly amazing person and I'm sure he's going to fit into your household of cats beautifully! There should be more people like you!

Aw...that's so lucky that you saw him! I often think about that, the chance encounter with the cats we have.
