I'm about 90% certain thst ghosts are not real, even though I have mentioned seeing one of my deceased cats in another thread. I believe that was a hallucination caused by lack of sleep, guilt, and grief. However, one of my cats will often stare up at the ceiling or into a corner of the room when nothing is there and even move her head like she is following movement. It's really creepy. What's even more creepy is that she will sometimes sit in the exact spot where I found my poor kitty's body four years ago (the two never met) and just stare at me. She sometimes will just stare at that spot from across the room. Maybe I just need to stop watching all of those ghost and haunting shows on television!

I wonder the same thing even though I am about 95% sure ghosts don't exist. My kitten does the same thing, staring at the ceiling or wall and following something with his eyes. It is possibly something like a tiny bit of cobweb blowing around or a bug but it still makes me wonder. There is a particular spot above my bed he watches that has me perplexed. I remember when my sister was a baby she would do the same thing, staring and watching something invisible to us.

Even though I don't think ghosts (as in souls of dead people or animals) exist, I do think there is a lot happening around us that we just can't perceive. Whether that's things science can explain or not, I don't know. I could believe that there are energies around us that animals (and perhaps babies) can perceive and maybe some of that comes from sentient beings that have died.

I lived in a house once that had a lot of weird goings on and we always half joked that it was haunted. One day I was sitting in my bedroom reading when I was startled by a weird feeling - that kind of feeling that you're not alone. My cat Saffron was asleep but she jumped up at the same moment I did with her hair standing up and she bolted out of the room so fast. I was thoroughly creeped out and followed her. Saffron was sitting in the living room acting normally again so I picked her up and carried her back to my room to see what would happen. As soon as we stepped in my room, she went stiff, hair standing up and jumped out of my arms and ran out again. I had no idea what it could be that we both sensed but whatever it was, it was not benign. So now when Jasper watches things I can't see, I don't really worry since neither of us are scared. If I spend too long thinking about it I will start to get a bit freaked out and have to leave the lights on, lol.

I believe cats can see things we can't. I call them spirits instead of ghosts. Same thing. They can sense earthquakes and dogs can tell when someone is fixing to have a seizure. Maybe cats can tell too. My cats have been sound asleep and suddenly woke up to stare at something I can't see. Sometimes they freak out and leave the room. I've checked the area they were looking at and found nothing. Not even a piece of fuzz. I guess there will always be things we can't explain.
