It has been about four years since I had my cat's vaccines updated. They are indoor cats, and I mean they are indoor cats. They have no interest of even going outside. Which is why I have been as urgent to get them updated. However, yesterday one of them bit a 10year old and now her father has called animal control. I haven't seen the paperwork yet. Not sure what to expect. Any advice? I've emailed the vet that did the exam and shots the last time, but not sure if the records will still be there since it's been so long.

So the question may be whether or not your furbaby has rabies, I'm guessing.  This just came up the other day when we took our kids in for their annual exam. We ended up just getting their rabies shots, and our Vet said one good thing about getting it was "IF they were ever to bite anyone (say, the groomer), then they could be quarantined at home if we had the rabies certificate.  That's how it is in Arizona.  I have no idea where you live, so it could be completely different.  Also, depending on how deep the bite was, whether it even drew blood, etc., there are just so many variables...

Hopefully nothing will come of it

I think in most states she will need to be quarantined.   I think it can be done at a vets office rather than at a shelter but of course you will be charged boarding fees.  As far as a fine goes that will depend on the regulations about rabies shots.  I know in Ohio the rabies shot isn't required for a cat by the state but many locales have a requirement written into their regulations.

ln this case perhaps if you can prove you've never let any of your cats out, or any other animals inside in the last 4 years, it won't be as serious. lf your kitties were vaccinated 4 years ago, maybe a titer proving (hopefully) they're still protected would help.

l do believe there is a quarantine - l remember someone on here mention months, others 30 days, or 10 days - l guess it depends on your local laws. l'm guessing you'll have to pay for the quarantine.

Ok, he's been quarantined at the house. But now I think there is a problem. I've caught him licking litter off the floor. And of course I can't take him out of the house or have anyone over to look at him.

Is it CLAY litter?  I know that when kittiies lick CLAY anything, like pottery, it could be a sign of anemia. does he appear listless?  Perhaps you can CALL a Vet and advise them of the situation and see what they say.  Don't leave out any details, such as the fact that he bit someone, especially if that is out of character.

Sorry for delayed responce. He has stopped licking the litter. However now his brother isn't eating. He's drinking some water and the milk for cats. But noticed when he goes to bite down, he drops his food. It's only been three days, but worried. His nose is cold and wet, he isn't hiding, and he's purring like nothings wrong.
