I wish I could take in a female stray and her kitten.

The neighbor kid told me the cat and kitten are sort of their cat. He said they feed them and let them in sometimes but I don't really think so because the poor things are always over here. She is even pregnant again! I really want to take them in but my husband says no. Plus Hootie doesn't like the other cat ( has attacked the screen door trying to get at the stray) and both are spare bedrooms are unavailable right now. One is filled with junk and the floor is ripped up in the other. It's getting cold out and it breaks my heart her and her kitten are out there :(

Thank you for caring and sorry your neighbor doesn't seem to care.

Is there any way you could trap the cats and at least get them spayed/neutered (the pregnant one can be spayed quite late into her pregnancy).  That should calm down the cats--and prevent your having to feed even more cats.

There are low cost  spay/neuter clinics, and some counties offer free s/n depending on your income level.

Maybe you could get your husband to build a winter shelter for the cats, to make him feel more involved.  A large tupperware like container (thrift stores have these), cut an access square, line with styrofoam (my next door neighbor was throwing some away so i took it) and filled with straw (explain to the farm/garden store why you want some--may be free).  Cheap.

PS:  you want straw not hay; hay molds.

Good luck.

There is a low cost shelter around here that will spay strays for a very low price. The winter shelter is a wonderful idea! I think I will build one. Thanks so much!
