I took my cat to be neuter om Monday. Tuesday he was fine, eating drinking and everything. Wed. started to act funny, not eating or drinking and vomiting .Took him to the Vet he had a fever, most likely an infection. He was given the 2 week injection of antibiotic Convenia and Cernia for vomiting. Took him home just slept all evening. Also was on pain meds, Buprenorphine. Thursday, still not eating or drinking, back to Vet. Fever gone, and he seemed ok at the Vets, they kept him all day. He would not eat for them or drink. She gave him a fluids injection, and what I thought was a appetite stimulate called Anzemet. When I looked it up it said it was for vomiting. Today I tried to get him to eat baby food, Nutri-Cal, and his favorite treats, catnip, and several other thing. Forced water and foods with a syringe . At my whits end , do not know what to do. He is going to the bathroom fine! Running out of money!

I'm sorry that you and your kitty are having such a hard time. I think you are doing the right thing to make sure he gets some food via syringe if he is not eating. Cats can get fatty liver disease if they don't eat, even for just 24 hours. Maybe it will take some time for him to recover his appetite after being sick.

Thank You, I just do not know what to do, I feel the Vet should fix this without charging me, When I try to feed him he gets upset and I am afraid he is  stressing from it.

Have you tried all-meat baby food? I got that suggestion very early on and it's helped in a lot of tough situations. Originally it was recommended as a way to get their medicine into them, by dissolving it in baby food. But they love the baby food so much that I go to it just when they are being problematic eaters.

The brand I use is Gerber. I believe these are called Stage Two foods. There are about five varieties - chicken, turkey, beef, veal, and ham, IIRC. Each one is just the meat, pureed, no seasonings or salt. It might work and it's a good way to get liquids into him.

I wonder if the vaccine might be making him feel poorly. I know that can happen with people, that you can feel kind of flu-ish for a couple of days after some vaccines or booster shots. It passes without incident, but I wonder if the same can happen with a vaccine for cats.

Good luck. I hope your little guy bounces back soon.

He has seen the Vet twice and will again on Saturday. I tried baby food, CHICKEN, and he acted like i poisoned him, he didn't like it. I have been force feeding him, water , tuna juice and can cat food mixed with water. He seems to be ok with that. I will try anything, but I am calling his Vet again in the morning! I wondered about the vaccine also, or the meds she has him on! Thanks!

Where do you live?  Although I don't have any babies I've never heard of it, not any all meat baby products.

Maybe its time to show the vet how annoyed and upset you are?  We all tend to be very deferential to medical experts, be they doctors dentists or whatever - and I sometimes think they might show us more respect if we made a fuss.

All the same, as kitty was OK before his op I think the vet should be being super-attentive.  A neutering up for male cats is really no big deal and normally he'd be back to his usual self by now.  Nothing to be done about the after effects from the inoculation.

Sorry this isn't much help.
