I always have dry food out for Bella & Thunder. I give them 1 can of food in the morning and 1 at night.that I split between the two.

I went to the store today and got some of those cat treats and they got into them and nearly ate the whole little pack.

So I wonder how much does a cat really need to get through the day ? Am I over feeding them ?

Most adult indoor neutered cats need about 20 calories per pound of ideal weight daily to maintain weight. For example, a 10 pound cat would need about 200 calories daily. So, it's important to know the calorie count of the foods you feed which is available either on the cans and bag or on the company website. Most cats do eat about 5.5oz a day, so if they are getting fed 5.5oz plus free-fed dry plus snacks, then yes, you are probably feeding too much. If you notice any unwanted weight gain, that's a clear indication.

Bella & Thunder are not over or under weight at all.just normal. They are just pigs I guess Always hungry.
They act like I don't feed them.

One of my cats weigh 18 lbs, so 20 x 18 is 360 calories per day. I only feed him around 157 calories per day though and he's doing fine. So that calculation isn't always right.

I split a 5.5 oz can between three cats in the morning, a 3 oz pouch between three cats in the afternoon, and a 5.8 oz can between three cats at night.
