This is a new wonder drug in the UK/Europe for treating anxiety in cats.

I can't find it in the US, without paying to have it shipped here, but am considering trying something similar (Biotics research

de stress capules). To get the cat dosage you give 1/2 a capsule.

The reviews for Zylkene look pretty decent:

My cat has idiopathic FLUTD and after 5 urinalysis and over $800 spent we are no closer to controlling his behavior. I've also tried 2 different vets and neither were very helpful.

I've debated about putting him on amitryptline, but if it increases urinary retention than it won't be worth it. I've also found prednisolone will cause him to pee all over the house and strain very badly.

I still haven't tried Buspar yet. Any thoughts on that?  The vet didn't mention it, just mentioned that he had tried amitryptline with his own cat with FLUTD and it didn't help.

Is buspar only for short term use? He has chronic issues with straining and spraying all over the house. Poor thing struggles to pee, but no crystals. He just has a lot of inflammation.

He has aggression issues as well and my other cats refuse to play with him due to that issue.

I'm reluctant to take him back to the vet and have them run up a huge bill, just to be told he has nothing wrong with him.

Poor boy, he sounds very unhappy. And it is no fun for you either. But to me it does sound as if there is a physical issue involved, if he is continually straining and trying to pee. He probably blames his pain and frustration on the litter box, which is why he won't use it. Forgive me if I am telling you something you have heard several times before from the different vets.

You have had several urinalyses but has an actual ultrasound or Xray been done on the cat? He may have a blockage that is not due to crystals. My Bonaparte had similar issues and we found gravel blocking his urethra and bladder, and he has been fine for over a year now after surgery to remove it.

I do hope you find the cause and can treat it soon

Yes we did X rays and a urine culture. He does have severe allergies which goes hand in hand with urinary issues in people.
