I have these 2 baby kittens (one has its eyes opened and one had it's eyes still closed) both are from the same litter but I am unsure how old they are. I know they are very young though. Anyways the kitten with its eyes closed has been having a little blood from its anus. I have been feeding them kitten formula from a bottle since I found them on Friday. I use non alcohol baby wipes to wipe them, and i wipe them gently. Both of their poops are orange. What does this mean? And what does the little bit of blood mean? Also, the kitty whos been bleeding, i wiped him this morning lightly of course and after one wipe he pooped a long strand, like a little longer than my middle finger all on his own. And he seems to pee and poop after very little stimulation. The other kitten fights me about wiping. And doesn't poop a lot. Someone please help!!

What formula do you use? How much is the blood?  Im thinking on what may caused the bleeding, as it isnt good, of of course.   Lets hope its something relatively harmless...

Re  pooing and so, you dont write much about stimulation, "massaging of the nether parts" which hints you can do it more.

With one of them it seems to work just fine, and this long tooth paste string is normal.  Color? Usually not orange, but if you call it a nuance of mustard or brownish...

The massaging around has it own positive effects, so do it also on the one you just need to wipe.

I will give you a adresse for a site concentrated on orphans, during the time I will give you a tip, reinfoced by our forumite Catwoman707:

You put in the behind under running warm water (not too warm of course, but for you it will feel more than just lukewarm).

And held it there, the water both stimulates and cleans.  You held the kitten with left hand AND you also tap it on the behind parts with your forefinger of right hand.   Works usually like a marvel, and you dont risk the behind gets sore and red by much wiping and other stimulation, which is easy to happen...

Afterrwards you of course dry of the kitten, and keep it warm, and make sure you do it where is no draught.

Keep reporting and asking!

Good luck!

I am using Hartz Precision Nutrition Milk Replacer for kittens.
And massage nether regions? Please explain. I massage their sides and tummy and back.

If you can get another kmr from another factory, or get goat milk, do it.   Some forumists are OK with Hartz, some - not so. Enough said.

Nether regions are what you yourself describe; tummy, bottom, a little on the back too...  I suspect the word nether is misspelled somewhere.

Good luck!

Well last night i diluted their formula with some water. Half and half. They drank it. And their tummies seem kind of bloated i guess you would say. The orange kitten pooped again with very little stimulation, barely any blood. (usually when i wipe you can see a few dots) and the calico pooped a little bit. Im afraid they aren't pooping enough?? Also it is like brownish orange still.... And i still have.a whole big container of that formula... Also they like to bite my lip.

Btw how can.i tell how old they are?

Kittens usually open their eyes between 7-14 days. Since one has them open and the other doesn't my guess is that they are a week and a half or so.

Stefan has given you some good advice already, and hopefully this post will bump your thread as well so others see it. Unfortunately bottle babies are the one area I don't have much expertise so I can't advise you much there. However, be sure you read through the basic kitten care links to make sure you have all the basics covered: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/249018/...regnant-cats-kitten-care-articles-and-threads .

By far the most important thing you need to be doing right now is getting a daily weight. A cheap kitchen scale that weighs in grams is perfect for this. To get the most accurate measure try and weigh them at the same time everyday. On average they should be gaining 10-15 grams a day, though a day or two with more or less is normal. But, any signs of weight loss and you will want to get them to the vet ASAP. When kittens crash they crash very quickly and keeping an eye on their weights is the quickest way to determine if something is wrong.

Thank you so much for rescuing these two and giving them a chance to thrive. Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions that you have!

Good you tried with diluting.  Sometimes it does the trick, it may be so with all brands.

Brownish orange doesnt sound too bad...

Good luck!

The question about a cheap and yet good vet will return now and then, if you are cat owner or cat fosterer.  So, finding a decent and cheap vet is necessary for you.

Look at the vets around, most do have some sort of pricelist...  Google. Phone shelters nearby and ask whom the recommend...  You perhaps do have neigbours or others you know who are cat owners... Ask them...

There are also lists and phone numbers where you can find cheap spaying clinics.  Most of these clinics also do other veterinary works.

I shall try to find some adresses for you.  Where are you living?  Most of our lists are for USA...

There may also be some list statevise for the USA.

EDIT

Cheap  spaying:
If you are in the U.S. ,  the ASPCA has an online database.  http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/spayneuter

Or here is a hotline number that will find you a low cost clinic in your area  1-800-248-7729

And this thread from our Health Forum.  I dont know how covering it is, you must seek by yourself.

Next question is what to do with the bleeding.  Is it the same kitten as last time?

Worms MAY be one cause, and soon in some days, it will be time for first deworming.  If you can get hold on preparate with Pyrantel as the active ingredient, it shoud work nicely, and is a mild preparate.  The british allround preparate Milbemax can too be used on small kittens.

There are surely other ideas too, but Its late here now, and Im tired...

Good luck!

I agree with Stefan that finding a vet you can work with is your next step. You need to get this checked out before it gets worse.

In addition to Google and calling places try calling your local no kill shelters and rescues. Many of them are happy to add you as a "foster" to your kittens. So long as you are willing to house and care for them many will pay for their medical and take care of re-homing them. It's really a great deal!

Also, many vets are more than willing to work with people who have rescued cats/kittens. I know I am not the only person on here who has had numerous free/low fee vet appointments because of it. Many vets recognize that it takes a village to reduce animals and are more than willing to offer their time free of charge and to sell you medications/services at cost. So, start calling around and see what you can find!

I am also happy to help do some of the legwork if you can provide us with a more specific location as to where you are. You can PM this information if you aren't comfortable with it being public, or just offer us a general idea.

We are here to help however we can!

So I have some bad news. The little orange kitten died this morning in my hand. He was weak yesterday and refused to eat, i knew it was going to happen. This morning at 2:45am i tried to feed him again. He had blood on him more than before. I wiped him, and tried to feed him. He refused. Woke up at 6:45 and picked him up. He was limp, and there was more blood. And he was struggling to breathe. I knew what it was going to happen. I held him close, told him he was loved, and i petted him even after he took his last breathe. Now his sister is crying for him. Thats her second sibling to die. Im the only one she has left. I just hope that she makes it. So far i see nothing wrong with her. Geez i miss the orange kitten, but atleast he isn't suffering anymore.

Oh no I'm so sorry to hear this.
Sometimes kittens just don't make it despite our best efforts. And, it sounds like there was something going on with him that no amount of veterinary care would have been able to resolve.

Thank you so much for doing all that you could for him. At least he passed knowing what it was like to have a home and to be loved. That is the very best gift that you could have given him.

All my vibes that the little girl continues to thrive and pulls through.
 RIP little guy

Thank you all. And it's so hard to say, as I'm typing this crying my eyes out, the little calico is laying on my chest barely breathing. She won't eat. She was perfectly fine when i put her to bed. Now she isn't doing so well.
What did i do wrong?

She's now laying on my pillow, which is on my lap. Her paw on my thumb. Just laying here... Barely breathing. I keep telling her its okay to go because shes been suffering for 3 1/2 hours if not longer. My little princess....
