I was wondering if anyone is familiar with the Purevax vaccine for rabies, and if it is a better option than the 3-year regular/adjuvant vaccine? My vet doesn't carry the Purevax vaccine and she said she thought the 3-year vaccine was better because the Purevax one is only valid for 1 year, so then the cats are getting less injections so it mean less chance of reactions and etc... However I've also heard that the Purevax one is a lot safer for cats than the adjuvant vaccines.
My cat Church has had a reaction to the rabies vaccine before, a small bump which went away after a few weeks and a shot of Benadryl. My other cats thought have not had a reaction, however they have immune system issues and are very prone to allergies which makes me cautious. Also we think the other cats are likely related to Church (they were feral kittens found in the same place 1 year apart and might have had the same mother, she was the same color for sure).
Two of my cats are overdue for their vaccination and so my vet wants to do a 1-year vaccine on them this year and then 3-year next year. I am trying to figure out if this is a good idea or if I should just stick to the Purevax one yearly as a better option?
