My kitten, Gunnar, is about 2-3 months old. I adopted him from my cousin. She found a litter of kittens tossed on the side of the road and was desperate to find homes because she could not keep them and she didn't want them to go to a shelter. When we brought him home he was very gassy. My cousin said she ran out of cat food and gave him dog food. I figured that was why. Now, he is still very gassy, he could clear a room. Also his poo is very strong in oder. We have tried different food, wet and dry, and nothing is helping. I also give him a piece of egg white every morning from my eggs because he seems to really like it.I've never owned a kitten, so I'm not sure about any thing with him. Please help.

Gas + smelly stool = likely parasite. Has Gunnar been to the vet? If not, this is where you should start. Have them do an in house fecal on him. He is old enough to begin vaccinations as well.

We just had a litter of kittens into the vet. They have been fighting campylobacter for 10-ish wks. We have run multiple fecal panels on them (in house and more sensitive tests done outside the clinic.) 2 were having more severe symptoms; so, we did yet another in house panel on these 2 (just to make sure they didn't have a secondary problem.) This time they found roundworms...They have been indoors only for nearly 12 wks and had been dewormed twice. But, somehow these pesky roundworms were there. A few days of Panacur and they should be gone. =)

Thank you, thank you! He has an appointment coming up after we get our dogs in. Turbo(dog) has his rabies and molly(dog) also has rabies and a tick removal. Should I ask to have Gunnars appointment pushed up? It's in 3 weeks (we can only afford 1 a week. Our vet is amazing but expensive).

I would get him in sooner than later. A chronic parasite infection can lead to weigh loss and dehydration (from diarrhea) among other issues, esp in young kittens.

Plus, if it is a parasite, he will not get better without proper medication. He may get worse, though.

I would also look around the other vets in your area.  It's all very well having an 'amazing' vet but if you can't afford to use them they are a bit like a chocolate teapot.

I was looking for a vet who would early neuter my kittens (registered pedigrees) and found the most amazing and affordable vet!  I'm delighted.

We got him in for next Wednesday. He's scheduled for the works. Now can anyone give advice on collecting a fresh poo specimen?

I would have the vet pull a fecal at the clinic. This way, it is fresh and less likely to be contaminated by outside factors. If you must take in a sample, I think that using recycled paper litter (Yesterday's News or something similar) is the best way to go.

Ok. Do I just cut it up and put it in his box?
