Krashballz, you remind me so much of myself. I've turned down outings to spend time with Tigger countless times.

I'm ecstatic to hear krash is hanging in there. Continue to spoil the heck out of him and overindulge him in love.

THere's a radio show on BTR. It's on Nov 1 at 10 PM EST. They will have pet communicators and reiki healers. I will definitely be calling in, you should, too!

There's not really a new update on Krash today. He's exactly the same as yesterday. Just lies around, silent & not really getting excited about anything. He did move from his bed on the floor to the top tier of his cat tree though. That seems to be his new "spot." I was just happy to see he still has it in him to climb that high. He's still eating and using his pottybox just fine.
I just wanted to sign in and say thanks again for all the support everyone has shown for him.
iloveprincess iloveprincess , I thought the same thing about you lol. What is BTR? Is that blog talk radio? Because I will absolutely be tuning into it Friday.

Here's a picture of my skinny little kitty I took this morning.

Aww, poor skinny Krash :(. He still is a cutie, though!

Yes, it's blog talk radio. Look under the spirituality section at 7 PM PST. I'm the same time zone as you, so I will see ya there!! Do you have a BTR account?

Isn't he adorable? :) He's changed so much over the last 6 months.
I'm checking out BTR right now. I don't have an account, but I'll definitely be listening Friday. :)

iloveprincess iloveprincess Will do!

I have a question for anyone that does sub q's at home. They just did it on his back/side on Monday at the vet. I'm about to do it for the first time myself and wondered if I should do it in another spot. I'd think the same spot would be kind of tender still from being poked 2 days ago. And if I do it somewhere else, where?
Also, someone recommended to me to get Bene-Bac to help with his diarrhea (I can't give him metro pills anymore). All I could find at Petco was the small mammals formula. The package has a picture of a raccoon, a bunny, a hamster, and something else, but no cats. Does anyone know if it's the one I should get? It doesn't say NOT to use it for cats...

check out this video

I do it on his scruff, and alternate places. So, in the middle one day, then on the right, then the left. I never do the same spot consecutively.

sorry, i don't know about bene-bac

Krash is a very handsome boy....very masculine and king-like.

Good luck to you both on BTR!

I give my Sebastian sub-q fluids every other day. I always do it in the scruff. Chances of me hitting the same exact spot every time are minimal. But like iLovePrincess said, you could do it in the middle one time, and then slightly to the left or right the other time.

I'm not sure about the Bene-bac either. IMO, I don't think any over-the-counter anti-diarrheals are really good for cats, so I don't use them. I know probiotics can help with diarrhea. If you need something fast-acting, Proviable-KP paste works well and it only takes a little, but is only meant for the short-term. The Proviable-DC capsules are meant for maintenance, but they're really just probiotics. You may be able to get it from your vet. They usually sell the kit which comes with both.

Holistic, where do you order your fluids and needles from? I notice the vet gave me fluids with DEHP and overcharged me, so I need to find another source.

How's Sebastian?

Tigger's still doing great :)!!!

Thanks you guys! And thanks for the video. The vet showed me how to do it, but the video says things the vet didn't mention. Like to make sure he absorbed all the previous liquids. Krash has a weird little spot on his side by his ribs that makes a sound when I rub it. It sounds like he has a piece of like cellophane plastic under his skin. That's the best way I can describe it. It's weird and kind of worrisome because I've never had that happen before and I don't know what it is. So I decided not to give the fluids tonight just in case it's something. He's been drinking a TON of water today, so I think he'll be ok until tomorrow.
And I guess the Bene-Bac is a probiotic. Maybe it's a prebiotic...? I'm not sure. My aunt, who has fostered and raised lots of kitties, told me about it. I did a search on here about it too. A thread came up from a few years ago, and it looks like one lady swears by it for diarrhea. I'm obviously not going to give it to Krash without asking his vet and doing some more research. I'll check into the Proviable too. He's just got horrible diarrhea from the clindamycin they have him on. We had JUST got it under control too :(

I hope both of you & your babies are doing well today!

I get them from my vet. They give it to me all hooked up and ready to go with extra needles. It is convenient, but I will have to talk to them about getting a prescription so that I can get them cheaper online, especially since it looks like I'll be doing this long-term. However, when buying online, you have to buy everything separate from what I can tell - the bags, needles and venosets - and put it together yourself. I certainly have enough to do at home already, so this is kind of a pain for me, but if it's that much cheaper, then I'll have to suck it up.

Sebastian has been feeling good these past few days, most likely because of the medicine he is on right now. For now, I'll take it.

SO glad to hear Tigger is doing well!

Yes, I have skipped fluids with Sebastian before if I notice the liquid has not yet absorbed. I could tell because he would have saggy skin by his elbow.

Even though this website is for CRF kitties, there is an extensive section on fluid therapy and sub-q fluids that may be helpful. There's even sections about where to buy supplies online and how to put it together when you buy everything separate.

http://www.felinecrf.org/fluid_therapy.htm (scroll down to where the sub-q sections start)

The BeneBac is the same. You can get bigger tubes for cats or dogs, but they're messy and harder to portion. I used it on the vet's advice when Mogli was on antibiotics (about 6 hours after his pill), and he loved the taste. The picture of reptiles and bunnies threw me, too.

Yay, I'm so glad Sebastian has been doing well :)! I hope this trend continues for all of us!

Yeah, I was going to buy from my vet, too, since it's convenient, but realized i need to find an outside source since I'm going to do this long-term. There are plenty of youtube videos that will show you how to set everything up. I believe you can re-use the tube, as long as it doesn't touch anything when transferring bags. I researched that today.  I think I'm going to order from thrivingpets.com. Did your vet give you DEHP-free bags?

Also, have you been giving Sebastian prozyme?

Krash had that before, now it just makes that weird sound when I rub next to his shoulder on the left side. It doesn't feel squishy or anything.
Thank you! And I'm SO glad to hear Sebastian's doing alright.

Thanks, jcat jcat ! That's exactly what I needed to know :)

In general, other than the diarrhea, how's Krash feeling?  Is he getting back to normal?  I wish I knew what that krinkling sound was.  I never experienced anything like that with
Sven
.  The ballooning, yes, but not that kind of sound, and certainly not a couple of days later
.  Did you put in a call to your Vet about that?  It's worth asking about.

BTW, the ballooning can occur anywhere, no matter where you insert the needle.  You might insert the needle into his scruff, and yet the fluids might accumulate in his stomach swag, or they might accumulate in one shoulder, or even down one front leg, so don't be alarmed.  Have you done them yet?  If so, how'd it go?  The first time is always the hardest

I'm not sure if they are DEHP-free.

I am not giving Sebastian any digestive enzymes, yet. From what I read, they can be "iffy" for cats with pancreatitis....either helping or hurting. I wanted to wait and see what his pancreatic test results are from TAMU before deciding.

Krash is doing ok. Thank you for asking! He's not great, but he's not too bad. I guess you could say this is his new "normal." He did ask to go outside on the balcony yesterday. He used to live out there constantly, but hardly shows any interest in it now. I use that as an indicator of how he feels. That and the cuddling. He's been super cuddly yesterday and today. So I'm not complaining :)
It is weird about the noise in his side. It's only one tiny little spot too. He has an oncologist appt tomorrow, so I'll be asking her what it might be.
I haven't given him the fluids yet. As soon as my husband finishes what he's doing, we're gonna give it a go. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty nervous. But I'm also confident I can do it. He's a good kitty for me, and I'm sure that'll help make it easier.
He's barely fighting me at all now when I give his pred to him in a syringe. I think he might actually like the flavor of the chicken broth. Or at the very least he's gotten used to it.
