Hey guys!

I am the proud owner of four cats that we have rescued over the past four years. We have a tabby (Trouble) who is roughly eighteen months old. Six days ago she became very lethargic and would not get up to eat, drink or use the litter box. I had to pick her up and take her or bring things to her. When I picked her up, she would cry, growl and nip me (extremely out of character, she is the lover).

We went to the vet Tuesday and were told it sounded like an infection and asked if she had been in any fights. She had been attacked by our resident granny grump in which she lost a claw. So the vet took temp 102.7, gave shot of antibiotics and pain meds and told us to call with status update. Came home and she perked up a little but by the next morning, we were back to laying around. Went back to vet today, had temp of 103. Did blood work, everything was normal except pancreas results. She said looked like she ate something bad, got into something or something fatty. We have fed her Fancy Feast wet & dry food since we brought her home over a year ago, however we did switch to Purina dry food about 3 weeks ago. Has anyone had a problem with Purina? I didn't think think about that when I was at the office today. She started us on a ten day round of amoxy twice a day. Called it pancreatitis.

Any and all help would be great! Can't stand seeing my baby sick like this.:sigh:

Oh dear

Oh dear, you and me and out cat all in the same boat.  I haven't found my way round this site yet, but I have posted about my dying cat (Miss Flipp) somewhere - but can't see it anywhere.

Your cat is only young, 18 months did you say?, and your vet is taking a sensible route...... it may be an idea to ask about the change to dry food.  I did rread it can damage their kidneys if they don't drink enough water - and you can't make them drink if they don't want to - a phone call would be enough, no need to cart the poor animal off to the surgery again.

I know the anguish you are going through, and hope and pray your little kitty perks up soon.  Chin up!

BBarb,

So sorry to hear about Miss Flipp being so sick. I am hoping that we make forward strides and that her age will be a plus factor. How old is Miss Flipp?

BBarb, if you want to try and find where you posted something I've found the quickest way is to hover your mouse over your name, either in your own profile, or in a post that shows in your recent history.  You can click on either 'all posts' or 'all threads started'.  That should get you to where you're looking for.

ReneS.  I haven't had a cat with pancreatitis, have you searched for threads about  or including topic of pancreatitis? It might also be useful to title your thread with pancreatitis in the title so people who are experienced or having the same problem see your post more clearly?

I hope both of you manage to find the answers you need and your cats find comfort.  They are lucky to have your love and care.

Poor Trouble. Does she seem any better yet? Did Trouble lose the nail or did Granny Grump? If it was Trouble, did the vet look at that? A torn or lost nail is so easily infected. If Trouble is an outside cat, there is no telling what she could have eaten. I'm assuming you call her Trouble for a reason! She sounds like she is usually very sweet girl. I sure hope she is feeling better.

Another thought.  How long was Trouble not eating?  Was she just eating less or not eating anything?  Has she started eating OK now?  It is really serious if cats don't eat enough, even for a couple of days and it can cause liver problems.

If she is still not eating well it is really important you talk to your vet again and get advice.
