I found a kitten in a rainstorm it's a miracle he wasnt run over and that we even noticed him. He was 12oz then, now he's almost 2lbs. Anyways he loves baby food but not so much kitten food. Anyone have an advice on any good brands I tried royal canin and he isn't a fan. Also what types of toys do kittens like? I have 2 dogs and have been a dog person but now I am in love with this kitty! He's been through a lot he has HORRIBLE conjunctivitis we didn't think he had a left eye and then pnemonia. Now since he's eating a lot I want to make sure I give him the right nutrients :)

A good wet kitten food is pretty essential right now. Most of the time, I use Proplan, although any decent kitten food is good. If you mix it with the baby food at first, gradually using less and less baby food, it will help transition him.

Thank you for adopting him! We love pictures, BTW...

You can try fancy-feast gravy lovers. It is very small chunks and very jelly/juicy and kittens seems to like it. I use to give it as as first food after the baby food. My kittens seems to like the chicken and turkey flavors the most, they don't love the beef flavor however the store often sell the combo pack which includes all the 3 flavors. Also a good nourishment for kittens until young adults is KMR formula.

I remember once I spotted two kittens that were abandoned by their stray mother, my roommate picked up the smaller one which turned out to be very malnourished and had coccidia, and she left me to have to take care of it. I eventually picked up the second one which had a closed eye with a lot of dry crust on it. I remember saying it just needed cleaning, while my roommate and her girlfriend suggested he might have been hit by a car, lol!

His eye turned out just fine after cleaning daily for several days I was able to pull out a little piece of maybe nylon fiber that was causing the issue.

They love strings such as shoe-laces and strings from hoodies hoods. They love ping-pong balls and also those small cat toy-mices, just the simple cheap ones, better if they have a stringy tail that can be grabbed or that they can hook with their nails. They have some mices/birds at wal-mart that squeaks when touched and my kitten and cats love them. They also go crazy with laser pointers and you can use it to make them run so then later they fall asleep tired :) They also love if you make a ball out of crushed metal foil, but sometimes I am afraid they would choke with it so I try to make it big enough.

Good luck and thank you for saving the little kitten.

Be careful with toys, especially with young ones.  I wouldn't leave strings or fabric/felt toys alone with them.  They can chew and swallow pieces that wouldn't be good for their tummies.

I know it'a tempting to feed them baby food since they love love LOVE it so much (w call it "kitty crack") but its not enough to sustain them for the rest of their lives - and for their brains and bones and "innards" to function healthily in later life, they sadly must be transitioned to "real" kitten food. You can keep using the "kitty crack" as a treat - but it's got to be weaned out. Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers is not considered a "premium" food - but it's got plenty of the nutrition they need (it's what we feed ours that need to be on soft food) and they find it very yummy - which is half the batter. Hill's/Prescription Diet Kitten food is slightly better nutritionally, but is  more expensive and a little harder to find. Go with the non-fish flavor if you go Hills (I think it's Liver and Chicken).Smatter a little of the "kitty crack" on top of the kitten food to make it see more yummy - you might even warm it up a bit as the smell is often what gets them going!

Definitely what Ondine said - never leave them alone with anything with strings or loose parts. I had a friend who had a kitten strangle in blind cord in just the 2 minutes it took for her to go get iced tea from another room. THeir fast little buggers!

Have you happened to have him into a vet to check out the eye, get a once-over anyway? At 2 pounds he's ready to spay and get shots - so might be time for a vet run! Don't want any more babies runnin' around!

Good for you for taking him in and putting that much time and love into him!!!!
