Do you opt to Layway for Christmas or do you just want to buy things out right ?   Have you ever put things in layway and had to let it go cause you couldn't pay for it and lost it ? How much money did you lose on it ?

I can say I have never had to use it. I believe if I can't go in a store and purchase the product  right then, I don't go.

Tell us your Layway experience.

I have never in my sixty plus years done layaway. There were times when I couldn't afford to buy anything for anyone at Christmas and I just didn't do it.

I've done layaway years ago. It didn't cost me anything extra to lay something away at KMart for Christmas and I paid on it as the time went on. It was great for toys and such for our son at the time. I've never lost anything because I always paid it off. I see nothing wrong with it. In fact, I think KMart is bringing it back. I'd rather lay something away instead of putting it on a credit card.

I did it years ago at the PX on post.  The kids were little and we didn't have anywhere to hide Christmas presents from Santa.  It didn't cost anything extra.  We went and got them a couple of days before Christmas and left them in the trunk of the car.  We never lost anything because we were really just using the store for free storage.

I think I've done layaway just once.  I had found some bathroom things I really liked and didn't want to lose them; but I didn't have the full money right away.  DH and I got engaged shortly after that and he ended up paying it off and it's still the set we are using today.  Minus the rugs; those got icky on the bottoms.  It's a french white with purple rose set.

My mother did layaway when I was growing up.  At least in my young through elementary years.  She was single then and I guess it helped her work with her budget.  I think it was mostly school clothing and toys that she would use it for.

I know Walmart is advertising they have it again with less restrictions than they've had the last few years.  A friend mentioned putting bunk beds for her girls on layaway there.  I think they were at a good price at the time.  Dh and I don't plan on using it though.  I'm a selective shopper when it comes to toys for the kids; I want to use my budgeted amount wisely.  I have spreadsheets to organize it all.  I find specific things and then price shop online.  I shop the clearances during the summer months too.  I also start early.  So with all of that I just don't see a need to use layaway yet.  If it were a big ticket item and it meant getting the item at a good sale price; I might consider it.
