My beautiful 12 yr old Kiki came down with a bad upper respiratory infection, which started out with bleeding ulcers in her mouth. Followed by stuffiness and greenish mucus.

I took her to the vet Monday and he put her on Orbax once a day.

I know she is sick, but it seems she is more lethargic and less inclined to eat, even though she does nibble on food now and then. I am happy to report that her bleeding from her mouth stopped last night!

I read that these symptoms can be side effect from the Orbax.

Has anyone had a good/bad experiences with this medicine?

She is on day 4 of it and I'm hoping it will start kicking in.

Hi. Lilly was on Orbax for an upper respiratory infection and had the same reaction as Kiki. She barely ate and just slept all day long. I had to force feed her milk replacement. I kept her on it for about 5 days and did not see any improvement in her symptoms. Took her back to the vet and he gave her a different antibiotic (sorry I don't remember the name). Her symptoms started improving after a couple of days on the new antibiotic.

Thank you so much- Kiki seems a little better today- ate a few times today and actually drank water from her bowl!

She is a little "drugged looking" so I figured it was probably mix of being sick and the Orbax.

I personally know antibiotics can make you feel worse!

I'm glad she's feeling better! Lilly was looking drugged too. Yes antibiotics definitely make me a hot mess when I'm on them! Speedy recovery to Kiki!

Kiki licked up quite a bit if tuna juice this morning and chicken broth this afternoon. She's not actually "eating" but at least she's getting something in her system. She was actually better before she went on Orbax on Monday.

I got some 500 mg pills of Lysine and chopped one up and mixed it with some more chicken broth and fed it to her with a syringe.

It's still hard to watch her breathe heavy and be lethargic.

My problem is I am a self confessed "helicopter mom" so I am constantly around her checking on her. I try my best to leave her alone (as she would like) but it's hard.

I am the same way. It's good that she's getting something in her system! How much longer does she have to be on the orbax?

Sadly, we had to put Kiki down this morning.

She was becoming worse so I took her in.

They did a blood test and said she was extremely anemic and she would have to do a blood transfusion (which would cost around $2000 all together)

But yet she was so frail and out of breath that they couldn't even stabilize her to do her xrays.

Even after giving us a few minutes to decide on what to do, the dr came in and said she had become even worse and was breathing thru her mouth.

I'm upset but she was suffering. Even with a blood transfusion, we would still have to find out what was causing the anemia. I just didn't want to put her thru that.
