I rescued a seal point colored cat, not sure is actually Siamese or not, and she turned out to be pregnant. We believe her to be in the last week or so of her pregnancy but i am not totally certain as i have not ever dealt with a pregnant cat. The babies can be seen moving when we watch her stomach and the little guys seem to be moving around quite a bit. I am excited and willing to do everything they need...only problem is I am not sure what I need. Some help would be awesome. I promise kitten pictures in return :)

Wow! so exciting!

Mostly there are not much complications, but it is wise to be around and keep a watch. Its a interesting experience, and sometimes the cat mom need help.  Quite a few of our forumists did saved the day by resolute stepping in.

If the mom is trusthing you, she will be only happy you are around.   but I have had seen examples when a fostered  shy semiferal did accepted the human being there and helping.  They know who is friendly and who is not, there in the time of need.

OK, the most important is, you take care of the mom.  The mom will take care of the kittens.  You dont need do much with the kittens if everything is OK.  Just weigh them every day and simultaneously have a quick look see.  Weight them near the bed, so mom see you what you are doing, and dont need to worry.

Change the nesting bed often, preferably every day.  Have old newspapers in the bottom, so the box wont get soaked and the change will get quicker.  Have a reserve nesting bed, you move them into the reserve bed, and change the main bed...   The clothing for the bed best is fleece or flannel.  Old towels as most use may fasten on the kittens nails.

So, have a scale.  A dropper if need be.  Good to have some kmr or goat milk home, or at least, you know where they are to get - IF.   If you must sear the umbilical cord, you can use your nails.

Im sure you know mom must have good food, think kitten food. Good wet food is excellent alternative.

There is surely more, ask!

Some links I did stole shamelessly from my collegues posts:

 One from this site:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/pregnancy-and-delivery-in-cats

http://www.icatcare.org/advice/my-cat-having-kittens    ( This is a link to a group of articles on cat pregnancy, birth and kittens.   Read the ones on normal cat birth and on " when to wait and when to worry"  )
http://www.cat-world.com.au/parturition-birth-in-cats

http://www.icatcare.org/advice-centre/cat-care/normal-cat-birth

You can also look at older threads, look at youtube films...

Good luck!

  Welcome to our Forums!

ps.  The mom although seal point, doesnt need to be siamese or have any near siamese ancestry.  The parents can have had any looks, its enough she got one point gene from each parents...

But pics welcome, you can put them in our subforum Describing our Cats...

Tio had her babies! Sadly there was one stillborn but there were four healthy large babies. She only took 2 hours for all of them and had no complaints, she purred the whole time.  Three out of the four are mommas coloring and one is black. I will post pictures and updates  a little later...everyone here is tired :)
