One of my pet peeves is silly Internet Holidays
Just kidding! I actually like them a lot. This week it's Pet Peeve Week so let's celebrate by sharing the most annoying pet peeves we have that are related to being cat owners. They don't have to be major things. Pet peeves are often trivial to others, but drive you crazy.

I'll start by sharing one of mine -

I hate having to battle with cardboard packages of cat litter. They have places you're supposed to "easily" tear through, right? So why do I always end up getting a knife or scissors to cut through?

How about you? Anything that drives you nuts? It can also be a pet peeve of one of your cats - anything feline goes!

It's got to be cats walking on railings. We have a winding staircase that's three storeys high. The railing is level for about a meter upstairs, and every cat that's been in this house has loved to walk on that bit, despite the drop on one side.

I can totally relate to the "easy open" cardboard packaging on the litter boxes!  I broke one of my nails trying to open a box of Fresh Step one day & it hurt!  Luckily I don't have to deal with that anymore as I've switched to the Petco brand due to the dust issue from the Fresh Step.

Which leads me to one of my pet peeves...the dust from the so called "dust-free" litter & the "unscented" stuff still having a perfume smell to it!  Eww & gag!  (All the reasons I switched to the Petco brand, on someone's advice from a thread on here...Turned out to be great advice because I don't really have those problems anymore, so whoever that was Thank You!)

Getting "the look" when I talk to people about spaying or neutering their cats. I wear my crazy cat lady badge with pride but HATE it when people use that to deny their own problem.

People who say, "You already have seven cats; what's one more?"

Whenever there's a cat around who needs a home, people call us. They ALWAYS say, "You already have seven cats; what's one more?"

What's one more? Could be our breaking point, financially or otherwise.

What's one more? Could put me over the edge some days, especially those mornings when Bootser is at her worst.

What's one more? Is one more cat who needs vet check-ups, dentals, and other things.

What's one more? Means more cat food, more cat treats, and more time needed to brush, comb, and clip claws.

At this point, "what's one more".....can mean a lot.

Sorry. It's been a very difficult morning today. Right now, I'd be blissfully happy if I didn't have one cat, let alone seven of them.

Mine is when my sister refuses to eat my home made food because she believes there's cat hair in it. So.. she has dog fur in her food, and I eat it anyway! She isn't a cat lover.

My other peeve is how I can't have nice things with Monet. Get a plant. Eaten or knocked over. Leave italian bread out. Gone. Get a beautiful vase? Shattered. A new couch? Unthinkable!

This morning while dumping the litter boxes, I missed the bag and dumped half of it on the floor. Dirty litter, not clean litter.

I hate having to pay more money if I go to certain well known pet stores than I would ordering from their website. I found a cat tree and some calming treats I wanted to try online. I went to the store and the tree was $20 more in the store and the treats were $3 more. I feel like they don't want me coming to their store. They'd rather I be a faceless customer and stay home.

l won't post my major owner-related pet-peeve since it would probably be PI.

The first thing that came to mind was at Easter, or anytime, when stores are selling lillies and people impulse buy them because they're pretty - l've never yet seen one store post the dangers to cat-owners.

This pet peeve I have is one for the books, not sure anyone can relate but if you do, let me know.  Autumn will not sit on my lap unless I have a blanket on my lap.  This blanket I keep on the couch and she sometimes sleeps on it if not in bed with me.  She will just look at the blanket and my lap from the floor, if she sees the blanket is not covering me, she will not get on my  lap.  She will actually look from the blanket in the corner of the couch and turn her head to see if it's on my lap, if it isn't she just walks away without first telling me off.  She will sometimes get on the couch and just sit on the blanket in the corner but will not sit on my lap.

Isn't this a little weird??

I don't think it's weird. One of my cats will only sit on your lap if you have a blanket (preferably knitted or crochet), and the other will not come near you if you have a blanket. He hates any blanket that's not o n a bed.

I hate when cat haters assume all cats are mean/vicious. My brother refused to go near Parker and made me put him away when he first came around because he insisted that Parker would hurt him. Parker is one of the most gentle, good natured cats I've ever been around/owned. He has NEVER scratched or bit anyone in an aggressive way.

Hate people who say "I love animals, but hate cats". If you love animals you can love them all. And people just don't understand how wonderful cats can be.

Don't know if you want non related cat pet peeves....but here goes. I can't stand watching some chew gum where they just chomp away at it, snap the gum, and make all kinds of faces. I'm not a gum chewer at all, but at least you can do it "delicately". Does this sound crazy? Oh and I also hate people who use incorrect English when they should know better. Things like "me and my friend went shopping". Or usin the word "aint". You don't need to be highly educated to speak properly.

Gum chewing.. I can't stand it when they chew with their mouths open. I chew gum, but I chew it with my mouth closed.

And I can't stand the word "Ain't" either!

Oh, I know this one... I'm sure most of us do.

And it usually happens because you have people coming around any minute and think "I'll just change the litter over before they come"...

A pet peeve I have with my dear Oz is when he comes on my lap and has to pad his paws, sticking his claws into my leg, until he settles. It's so few and far between that he chooses to come on my lap, I have to grin and bear it.

He's also annoying when he's on the window sill outside, wanting to come in, we think, so we open the door for him, and he looks at us, not budging. We call him for a few mins, but he sits blinking at us. So we shut the door. Then 10 mins later he's pacing up and down, this time he wants to come in. Obviously on his terms.

  • People think I'm a "crazy cat lady" because I read about cat food once in a while on breaks at work on my phone.
  • FIV+ means my cat is obviously a hospice case, so why didn't I get a "normal" cat?
  • Why didn't you get a dog? Cats hate people!

All assumptions I hate.
