Neither my Nala or my Simba were named after the Lion King.

Sorry if there are typos, I just really want to share my babies with all of you! XD

Hi, my name is Melyssa and I'm 26 years old. I'm a bio major in college and have very bad joints. Well, connective tissues around my joints. I'm in constant pain 24/7 and my cats really help to comfort me. I live with my mom and step-dad and am a cashier at a grocery store. This is probably my last week because it's caused ligament tears in my wrists. My favorite band is the Offspring, I like to draw and play bass, though, I can't do either because of my right wrist. I also love all kinds of science and am gearing to be a paleontological reconstruction artist.

I've been owned by cats for most of my life, save for the torturous years after my first cats' deaths. I grew up with two large domestic shorthair brothers who were 3 when I was born named Buddy and Zorro. Buddy was very friendly and Zorro would make the shape of a Z when he tried to catch string. They passed at ripe old ages when I was 16 and 17. The white manx we took in from my mom's friend was with us from the time I was 12 until 20. I also lived with my father's gray tabby persian Shadow, who was originally his father's, and step-mother's diabetic tabby Cheerio when I lived at their house and they currently have another red and cream persian named Muffin. I was very close with Buddy and was absolutely devastated when he passed. But he lived a long time considering he had a stroke when he was 10.

That brings me to my current cats. Back in June, my step-dad and I decided to surprise my mom for her birthday with sibling black and white shorthairs, similar to the ones we used to have. Enter Ebony and Nala. They exhibited symptoms of illness within the first few days. Ebony would not grow and had to be put down the 10th day we had her. Nala was given medications and recovered spectacularly. Since Ebony passed within two weeks of her adoption date, we were entitled to a free replacement once Nala was better. I told my mom that I wanted a red tabby male and, sure enough, there was the perfect match when my folks went to find a replacement. Both are now fixed.

Nala was named by my mom after her late brother, Alan. Simba was a joke name by me because of the Lion King but my mom picked it after the original Tarzan movies. They are just about 6 and 5 months old, respectively. I named Ebony after the all-black face she had. Very creative, I know.

Nala is very afraid of new people and runs from them while keeping them within earshot. It took two weeks of biweekly visits from a friend that drives me to college for her to let him pet her. She is the perfect little stalker and is very sassy. She is obsessed with grooming and has the sleekest, silkiest coat you'll ever feel. She's black with one side of her nose whiskers white and neck triangle, a crooked V on her chest and a line between her hind legs. She has this quirk where you can scratch her on her back and she will flop over on her side and beg for belly rubs. She likes weird foods like papaya, hummus, soybeans, jam and vanilla ice cream. I don't let her eat the weird things but she tried them when I let her smell them. She also likes to dig my dirty socks from in my hamper and take them to the living room and body slam them. She even knows which ones make patterned pairs. She's very quick and agile and barely makes a sound when pouncing.

Simba is a big clumsy oaf, more or less. He has a fantastic jumping ability and a cartoonishly long tail. He likes cuddling with me in the mornings and late night and is very solidly built. He's got a big skull and can take a punch. I know this because he's accidentally plowed into my hand while I was swishing a toy back and forth and it barely phased him. He only learned to pounce from Nala. He used to just jump really high and run after the toy. You know he's about to launch himself when chasing something because he wiggles his butt before doing so. He's recently gotten lean and pretty muscular and is extremely strong. He and I have developed a special and unbreakable bond. There's not too much he doesn't like to eat, though I don't let him eat people foods much. His tail is very flexible and remind's me of a lemurs when he moves it. I measured it a couple days ago and it's actually 12 inches long! What a freak!

Here are some visual aids because nothing describes your kitty like a picture...and because I'm like one of those people who shoves photos of their children at other peoples' retinas. I also have some videos of them playing on Youtube. Simba and Nala are both sleeping on my bed beside me as I type this.

Hi, welcome to TCS!  Your cats are beautiful.  I thought it was quite a coincidence when I read your post because I was singing a song by the Offspring earlier today.  I mean, here at home.  No one would want to hear me sing in public, lol.
