Hello everyone, I am new here and I am also new to owning a cat. A friend of mine had a litter of 6 and I just couldn't resist my Khloe. She is about 4months old now.

My question is.. Is it ok to feed your cat the same brand of food with different flavors for its entire life? I have been giving Khloe Iams but once i switched, she stopped eating the new brand and even threw up this morning for the first time.. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

You should have a rotation of food, including different brands. The idea is to deter finickiness and prevent reliance on a single brand in case it is not available anymore.

You may be introducing the new food too quickly. With some cats, that has to be done gradually. You could try mixing a teaspoonful of the new in with the old for two or three days, then two teaspoons, etc..

It's a good idea to feed more than one food in case there's a recall or your normal brand becomes unavailable for other reasons, like a blizzard or hurricane. Also, if your cat has to eat prescription food for a health problem, she's more likely to accept the switch if she's accustomed to more than one brand and flavor.

Another thought: Try to get brands with different textures like the shredded ones (Tiki Cat, Weruva, Fussie Cat). A lot of the gravy-based ones are sliced or chunked, but foods with gravy aren't as good nutrtiionally. Some of the shredded brands I mentioned are particularly good for urinary diseases. That way if there's persistent UTI condition, she'll accept the food. Do watch the calories, though. Brands vary widely.
