Oh, what a lovely kitty Lulu is, and what a hard time she has been through with loosing her human carer, moving home to be with her new family, and having that nasty sore on her nose.  I'm very glad to hear her sore is healing, she must have felt miserable with that going on, never mind everything else.  It sounds like Lulu has wrapped herself right around your heart now and looks to have settled nicely in your home going by this picture.  how wonderful that you were willing and able to bring her in to your home, I'm sure her happiness and safety will have been a great concern to your MiL.

Heheh, she does sound a little like a dog there with her fetch - Mouse did that for a while as a kitten then realized he could lounge about more if he got me trained to do the fetching. Hmmmm.  The smooth tongue is funny, but it's kind of nicer when you're groomed by a soft tongue than one that's like a barb wire brush.
I'm happy to hear that Lulu considers you now worthy of grooming, and welcome you both to this very select little group.   It is starting to look like much more of a mix of coat colours than earlier in the thread, which makes me feel quite reassured.

@MollyBlue, Mouse's tongue looks  all brush-like, just like any other cat, it's just that his brush is softer than other cats.   The best way to tell is if your cat grooms you - because it doesn't feel like your skin's about to be peeled off.

Thank you MServant for your kind words - this is such a fun site.  And yes Stewball I think your idea of starting a Soft Tongue Kitty Club is a fabulous one...lol.  When I have some extra time I look forward to personalizing Lulu's profile
and checking out everything on this site. Thanks for the great welcome!!!

Our adopted stray black cat also has a smooth tongue.  This is the first cat that I have noticed this with.  Glad to read that he is not the only feline with this.  He is in very good company.

We first thought of the name Bridget for this stray that would not go away.  Then I took "Bridget" to our vet and she told me that I may want to sit down for this news but that our "Bridget" was a "Bob" so now my husband and I call him BBK (Bridget Bob Kitty)

Well BBK looks like a real stunner to me.
Sounds like BabyK, or me thinks BB King when I look at the initials - thinking maybe BB King is more appropriate for such a handsome guy.

Mouse was grooming my forehead for quite a while this morning and one of my lodgers saw this for the first time.  Thought it was hilarious.   It is very cute but I can't help thinking that  if his tongue was as raspy as most cats' I would have a very sore, red forehead and probably no eyebrows.
I wasn't sure if I was being told I was smelly and needed a bath or if it was a mutual grooming thank you for the little face rubs and kisses he had had from me shortly before.   I did go take a shower just afterward but that had been planned anyway...

He was washing you.like my two wash each other. To him you are his family and that's what they do.

He must think I have rubbish fur.   I hope I never see him pulling that flegming face that cats do when they're smelling something very carefully because Mouse usually does that after he's licked his rear end - presumably checking if he's cleaned him self  thoroughly enough!   That really would suggest he thinks I should take a shower!

I have a solid white kitten with a smooth tongue. She loves to luck my face so it's easily noticeable. She does not seem to have any issues eating or drinking.

I also have a smooth-tongued kitty! My little Football is a 6 month old black Maine coon, and she's had a very smooth tongue ever since she was a baby. She seems to have no trouble eating or drinking, as they are her favourite activities, although when I give her wet food, I have to mix it with some water and mash it into a thick gravy-like paste. Otherwise, she leaves lots of little bits of food at the edges of her bowl. I always thought that this was because she was full, but now I wonder if she just wasn't able to lick up those food bits at the edges because of her smooth tongue.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. My cat Sparta is the same way. I don't know if her sister, Babyface, is because she's never licked me. My other cat, Stowaway, has the normal rough sandpaper tongue. Sparta and Stowaway love to lick me, Stowaway loves my feet and Sparta loves my nose. I'm so glad it's not the other way around. Haha.

My 8 month old kitten Shadow definitely has a smoother tongue than my other cats( probably a good thing considering she loves to suckle on and lick my neck) I think it is perfectly normal, every cats tongue seems to be a little bit different, but most are rougher.

Oh my, just look at that sweet little tongue tip.   Mouse seems to do fine but it seems harder for him to lick up his food / water than it would normally be.  He has a cute habit of picking his biscuits up with his paws instead, and likes to drink from the tap so the water runs straight in to his mouth.   As for grooming, Mouse seems to think I am supposed to stroke him for his grooming.
I'm sure Percy is happy for you to help him groom too.
