Hi, I just got a new kitten, Nimbus, two days ago.  He is about 8 weeks old maybe a little less.

Because he is ragdoll, and his bum is really furry, I noticed there was a little drop of blood.
I have sense checked his stool and I have only seen one stool with a little drop of blood.
Its not bleeding or anything, and its not a lot. Its just a drop.
He pooped twice yesterday with no blood but today I noticed there was a tiny drop again.

He is playing, having fun, eating and drinking and acting normal.
The person I got him from said he was wormed, so I didn't know if maybe this was why?

Also, when we brought him here, we fed him dry food.
I read somewhere that if its a little bit (I mean its a tiny bit of blood) then it could be due to diet change.  So I have bought canned food and decided to feed him that.  Maybe he couldn't process the dry food and it hurt him?

Last thing: he never acts like anything hurts him, but he does meow before and after he goes to the bathroom.  Even when he pees. (Ive been watching him closely)  Its not a sad meow, he just meows.  I didn't know if he just likes to talk, or if he meows because it hurts.

I have not took him to the vet yet.  Please let me know if you think this is a big concern, or just from switching foods.  I really hope hes healthy.  I love him so much already.

Welcome to TCS. Please, please, take him to the vet right away. Meowing before and after using the box, and spots of blood could be the signs of a serious elimination problem. My rule is, when in doubt, take them to the vet.

I agree, cats hide injury and illness. It's their nature, they don't want to be prey.  With cats the smallest symptoms can be clues to major problems.  Best to get them to a vet.  For future reference, I've been told by vets to feed them a small amount of plain yogurt to clear that type of thing up.  It can't hurt to feed a small amount of yogurt into their food.  I do that with my cats and my dog,  been doing it for years.  If you stop the kitty from having blood in the stool then there would be no reason to take him to the vet.   Also if you feed  yogurt and they have blood in their stool then you know to take him in without hesitation.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this one. Any time you see blood in the stool, even a small amount, the cat should be taken to the vet right away. Yes, giving yogurt will help the intestinal flora, but all the other things the OP described would make me take one of my ladies in, even if I had to write an expensive overdraft to do it.

Don't be sorry, we're all just trying to help.  You are correct the only problem is you misunderstand me. If you misunderstood then its possible Nimbus2629 did to.   So let me restate my position in an aggressive enough way that it's clear.

1. Kitty needs to see a vet ASAP!!!!

2. With cats, what seems like a tiny problem can turn out to be life threatening.  I know this from first hand experience and I wish I didn't.  It's been less than a week since I lost a cat whose only symptom was a gradual loss of appetite. Notice I said gradual, he was still eating a week and a half ago when we had blood drawn for lab analysis.  Before we got the labs back he stopped eating.  My vet was out of town that weekend but I was in Monday morning. Only discovered a massive chest infection after x-rays.  Normal white blood cell count, no fever, no coughing, no respiratory distress of any kind.  Turns out I was weeks, probably months too late.  If we started looking when his appetite first slowed, maybe we could have cured him.

3. In the future, once this is cleared up, I advise you to feed a small amount of yogurt mixed in the food daily.   That way if you have this problem again you wont be asking do I need to see a vet.  You will be SURE  you need to go see a vet.  I'm NOT suggesting that anyone should try a home remedy instead of seeing the vet.

So if I was unclear I'm glad you stepped in and said see a vet.

Hello all,
So i got a kitten three days ago now, pepper, who is roughly 4-6 weeks old. The first night i had her she slept in a blanket the whole night and waited for me to wake up the next morning before she moved. I fed her fancy feast kitten food (wet) from a can and the first can she ate she pooped and peed in the litter box no problems. Her stool was solid and of course small because she is so tiny. She had pooped a couple times that was solid. However, this morning i opened a different can with a different flavor and after she had runny poop, not too bad, but there was a tiny streak of blood. It was bright red but a very small streak. I took that can of food and threw it away. I replaced it with the first flavor that i fed her. Any thoughts or suggestions? She has not pooped yet since. Its only been almost two hours. Should i switch to dry food? Should i mix dry and wet food? any food suggestions for my little pepper?
