I've never owned kittens but a good friend has 2 of them, 6 months each (litter mates).

I just sent her info about how awful the food is she's been feeding them and she committed to switch asap (Hills, you know the drill).  Gave her comparisons and breakdowns of what was in the food and what each "bad" ingredient was and why.

However, I wasn't sure at what age they can really start completely eating adult formula food.  They have been obviously eating kibble and canned food for a while.  I don't see why this should matter, other than needing some extra fat and calories.

I'd like to give her a good answer, so she feels comfortable with her feeding plan.

I usually keep kittens on kitten food till they are about 6 months, then switch to adult food. If you are unsure, there are some foods that are for "all life stages", and can be fed to kittens through senior cats.

Thank you. I was pretty sure such a thing existed.  I do know one of the foods I feed my adult cats has a kitten formula and certainly is way better than the Hill's she is using.

And, I've seen life stages on other brands I use I think - maybe it was Natural Balance?  I'll do some research tonight when I get home.

On the other hand, they are already 6 months and one is a really good eater.  So maybe they are ready for adult formula

It will say "All life stages" on the package. Some good brands that are "All Life Stages" foods are Nutrisource, Innova, Taste of the Wild, Felidae, Natural Balance. That's just off the top of my head, there are many many other good brands. Although I think it is fine to give food for adults too
