My cat got into the neighbors backyard and was closed in, she panicked and jumped over an 8 foot fence but she is 12 and getting signs of arthritis so normally she never chooses to jump any fences. In the panic seeing my neighbor she jumped over and landed on our small fence in our yard. She is hobbling along her legs are moving but she basically has walked on her knees. She is in pain and I don't know if its her back or her legs. She is seeing the vet today should I ask for an x ray or do they just feel for problems?

So sorry this happened to your baby.
Hopefully they will suggest x-rays, but if not I'd most certainly ask for them. Hopefully they will also suggest giving her something for pain while she heals. Keep us posted on what they say.

I'm worried because last time they gave her Metacam injection for pain and many on here said its a bad one. I don't know what else they give for pain?

Buprenex/buprenorphine and tramadol are the safest pain meds for cats that I know of. Many vibes for your cat to make a quick recovery.

Ok so they gave her an x ray and felt her legs, not a sprain or break! She is in pain though they were going to give Medacam I asked for an alternative so they gave a cortisone shot (dexamethasone 2mg) to reduce swelling one leg was very swollen. They also gave antibiotic injection (penn G) which I hope wasn't a mistake. She is running a fever, I thought from the pain, but if its from illness the antibiotics will help.

Only thing is she got nothing to reduce fever, I hope it will go away! Also cortisone shot reduces immune system yet they gave antibiotics isnt that a cache 22 won't that make her worse if she's sick.

That is a large dose of dex.  My cat is on a low dose of it to control IBD and he gets .25 mg a day.  Hope your kitty feels better.  My kitty messed up his leg when he was on a feeding tube.  I heard him jump off the kitchen table, he was definitely feeling better, and he came in the living room limping.  The vet said one of the stitches holding his tube was pulled so he must have gotten caught up in it somehow.  He was limping for about 2 weeks.  I don't know what the fever is about.

I'm so happy to hear there was no break.
Yes, looking at her x-ray is fascinating!

Is this her regular vet? I'm surprised they wanted to again give her Metacam, since it is recommended to be given only once in a cats lifetime. Glad you had the information needed to ask for something different. I have made my cats files be noted with NO Metacam, No Convenia. Does she still show signs of pain? I'm surprised they wouldn't do more for that.  Maybe they felt the dexamethasone would reduce the swelling enough to relieve her pain?

Fever can arise from trauma. Hopefully the anti inflammatory and antibiotics will bring it down. Sending you both mega
she recovers quickly.

She is still showing some pain but she walked up stairs normally and jumped on our couch and is eating so that already is a big improvement. Between the antibiotics and trauma I don't blame her for being really tired I'm letting her rest for the next few days.

My cat isn't acting right now. She has been hiding most of the day in our basement under a table where its dark and cool, she is lethargic, peeing on the floor, not interested in playing or looking outside which she always does. She has been eating and did number 2 in the litter box normal, but everything else is not normal. She is limping bad again and won't even attempt to come upstairs.

She has never been like this before. Worst of all I called 3 other vets in my area and they all use Medacam! I don't know what to I have nowhere I know to bring her and I'm not sure if she is having a reaction or just hiding because of bad pain. :(

Of course you can refuse the metacam.  When Patches had a sore leg from getting caught up in his feeding tube the vet sent home a few doses of buprenex for him.  If he were just hiding and limping I would say it's probably from pain but the inappropriate urination could be something else.  I know cats can get cystitis from stress.   I would take him to a vet to get checked and simply refuse the metacam.  The most they can do is argue with you and hopefully give you something else for pain.

Have you called the vet that you took her to, to ask what they thought? They must have alternatives to the Metacam, and you could ask about buprenex.  I would also confine her to a small room with everything she needs in order to limit her activity and give her leg time to heal. The initial shots may have made her temporarily feel better and have now worn off.
