So, my 3 kittens are ones I took in when they were 1 day old from a feral cat.  They are now 4 months old and thriving indoors.  But now, my neighbor said that the same feral mom has 2 kittens again!  They look to be around 2 months old.  They are active and playing.  We tried unsuccessfully in the past to trap the mom after she had the first litter, so we can have her spayed, vaccinated, and re-released...but both times, she escaped the cat trap, so we gave up.

As for the kittens, I don't want them to have their own litters, and I'm unwilling to take them in since I already have their 3 older siblings and my 2 dogs.  I would love to get them spayed/neutered, but how do I know if they're old enough?  I know a vet w/ a spay/neuter program for ferals who would do it for a reasonable price.

What would you guys do in this situation if you could catch the kittens?

If the vet is experienced, they not always MUST keep to these holy 2 pounds.  Otherwise you can have them at their own [EDIT your own place] and fatten them up.  A room if you have, or a cage if you dont have extra rooms.

Cant you find someone who is willing to adopt them kittens?  They will be spayed and everything...  Or if a shelter nearby has some fosterers lined up, they may admit them.

Just a few thoughts...

Good luck!

I really can't take them in, let alone give them full vet care.  Remember, I took in 3 (originally 4) kittens from that same mom when they were a day old.  We spent over $700 in food and vet care.  And these same 3 kittens are about to get spayed/neutered, so I really can't afford to take in the 2 new ones.  I could afford the low cost spaying thie vet offers for ferals, but not much else.  What a dilemma.  On one hand, I don't wan these kittens reproducing.  On the other hand, I don't have the time nor resources to find them homes.

You do what you can.  Borrow or buy a trap and take the kittens to the clinic.  If you release them outside, they will be in familiar territory and you or your neighbor can feed them.

Please keep trying to trap mommy as well.  I know it is frustrating but as you've seen, she'll just keep giving you the gift of new kittens unless you do.

Does the low-cost clinic have any leads on people who may help you?  Some have volunteers who will help trap (or do the trapping).  But be prepared to do it yourself.  Good luck and thank you for caring!

You're fantastic for taking those 3 kittens in! Got to catch mamma and the other kittens, though. Is someone feeding mamma? If so, that's where the trap needs to go. If not, could you start? Catch the kittens whenever you can and see if they can be neutered. Do you have a kennel (wire dog-type works well) you could keep them in post-op (and pre-op if they're too small for neutering)? On a porch or in a garage? As you said, it is a dilemma and can make you feel overwhelmed. Just take it one step at a time and do the best you can. First priority is definitely mamma.
