He's eaten MAYBE a tablespoon of wet food since yesterday when I brought him home. I thought maybe he wasn't eating because his nose is stuffy from the URI, so I mixed some canned (Monterrey Catch from Earthborn Holisitc- figured the fish would smell the strongest) with a bit of water and warmed it up on the stove (we don't use microwaves here). He lapped up a little of the water, maybe another tablespoon or so, but that was it. He keeps sniffing at it but isn't eating. There's some dry Earthborn kibble on a plate and he's not touched any of that, and he's not drank any water as far as I know.

Ordinarily I wouldn't be too alarmed, but between being sick and as skinny as he is (probably 8-10 pounds, but he's a large cat and should weigh a lot more), I'm to the point that I am thinking about trying to syringe feed him like I've done with baby kittens in the past. I'd do it tonight but I don't have a syringe so I'll have to go to the pet store.

I'm thinking he needs different meds for his URI as well. He had 6 days worth left, so he's been on them for like 4 days already. I'd think he should be feeling better but when he sneezes, he ends up with snot coming out of his nose. My boyfriend cleaned his nose earlier today and said he was pulling chunks out of it. So, more stuff to bring up when I talk to the vet tomorrow.

Anyone have any other ideas on getting him to eat tonight?

Yes, but they all involve going to a store. Get some Friskies Poultry Platter pate. Try that on him. You want the stinkiest food you can find. Either that or some Beechnut baby food. The kind that is just chicken or beef and broth.

Yeah that's not an option. The nearest store is a ways from here (we live in the middle of nowhere) and I have to get up in about 5 hours. Plus I'd never feed him Friskies. I'm not even completely satisfied with the Earthborn and want something better.

Cook up some chicken and put it through a food processor, or get some chicken baby food (no additives, especially onion). Or try human tuna or sardines. He needs to eat SOMETHING so his liver continues to function, even if it's not the healthiest food at least he's eating.

I called the vet this morning and they were able to get him in right after work. She said his lungs didn't sound too bad, but up higher it sounded very gurgly. He got two antibiotic shots and was admitted overnight for IV antibiotics and fluids. She thinks he'll be fine, he just needed something stronger than the Clavamox pills, and he was getting dehydrated since he wasn't eating or drinking anything.

She also found flea dirt on him, but no fleas (honestly I've been so preoccupied with worrying over him not eating that I hadn't really given him a thorough inspection yet) so she gave him a wormer for tapes, as well.

She wasn't worried about his eye, said it was just his own uniqueness. But I intend to pursue it further, an animal eye specialist was mentioned on the thread about his eye, and once he's back to good health I'll look into that.

I'm supposed to call at 9am tomorrow to see how he is doing.

Oh and he weighs 9 pounds, 3 ounces. He's longer and taller than Trevor, who weighs 18 pounds. He is so skinny, I'd not be surprised if he tops 20 pounds when he's healthy again. yes, the poor baby is THAT skinny. You just can't really tell by looking at him because he's got so much hair.

Good. Hopefully the vet can jump start some nutrition in him too.

The report this morning is that he ate a can of cat food overnight and is still eating and is acting much better. They want to keep him another night though. So I will be picking him up at 8am Saturday.

I'm so glad he's finally coming back home! I felt bad leaving him there. I know he had to stay, but he probably was also scared that he was being left in a strange and scary place again.
