My girl, Felix has formed these scabs under her chin and more and more seem to be coming up. There are no black flakes or anything so I don't THINK it's fleas. I'm hoping to take her into the vet ASAP, however I work all week AND go to school :/. I was thinking it is possibly kitty acne, but at the same time, it doesn't look quite as severe. Any ideas? I'm worried...

I always suggest to have a vet look at any thing unusual that crops up. That said, yes it could very possibly be acne. Do you use plastic bowls for her food or water? These are the usual culprits for that condition.

Is your cat scratching her chin? My vet says that acne is very itchy for cats, so they scratch a lot and that's how the scabs might form. Do you have any photos?

I do use plastic bowls. I work at a pet store so I was planning on getting new ones today... again lol. My 2 girls share their food and one is a little pig so they run out fast so I had a gravity feeder. Here is a picture.

She's very cute!

It looks like acne to me, not severe though. You can wash her chin with some mild soap once/twice a day until you can take her to a vet.

Sounds excellent! She's my scaredy cat. She only really trusts my bf and I (mostly me) so this will be interesting. She HATES the vet, where as her baby sister just loves to go bye bye.

Oh I get what you're saying, my kitty is so stressed every time we have to visit our vet! Maybe a call to the vet would save the trip? :)

Well, I switched her bowls so hopefully we will see some improvement!

Plastic bowls are one of the causes of cats getting acne. They are more porous and trap bacteria and so get transferred to the cats chin when they eat and drink.  Using ceramic or stainless steel may prevent further outbreaks in the future.

I know this is an old post but I had to sign up just to reply:

It's a strange coincidence that the cat above looks exactly like my cat--even down to facial features. Also, @SammyRae lives in Washington like me, and my cat is having the same problem. The picture of the sore spot on her chin looks identical to my cat's chin.

I am using plastic bowls for her. She actually came to me with these bowls. One thing I noticed immediately when we got her 3 months ago is that she won't drink water out of anything but a clear glass bowl (I even tried ceramic.) So I will try some glass bowls for her.

I wonder if this is more common in this breed since our cats look alike. I also wonder if any allergen in Washington could be the trouble. I had never heard of cat acne before searching about this problem. My previous cats never had any skin problems. The only other problem with Carrot was the collar that she came with made her itch, and she was missing all the fur underneath it. Of course the collar is history now.

My cat is 3 years old now. @SammyRae. Your cat looked young in that picture. Did you ever fix the problem? How? Anyone else want to chime in?

I happen to live in Washington as well and both of my cats seem to have this. At first I thought it was from my cat rubbing her chin on the cement sidewalk we have outside but now that my other cat has it I'm not so sure anymore.
