Ugh i am really so upset..distressed...ive had a TERRIBLE vet experience with a bad vet who i trusted who has been GOUGING me for money for two monthsnow.  im so stupid....this vet was horrible. my poor cat has been through HELL :(( she has been medicated with pain meds, cerenia, all types of things....mistreated...by this incompetent clinic. given steroid shot, this that. all sorts of nonsense. given pain meds. first these incompetent nutjobs diagnosed her with GASTRITIS. had x-rays bloodwork. They continued 'treating her' and I rushed there when she began vomiting or having symptoms. I Had to finally mention...hey what about a UTI test? I mentioned it before...but due to an issue they couldn't take the urine out. several times...incompetent vet said "oh yeah sure ok try that." FINALLY they did the urine test and found she has BLOOD in her urine and he diagnosed her with bacterial cystitis. I spent 1000.00 to find out my cat had a UTI??? crazy terrible vet...I kept going back because...the "appointments' were free...stupid me. They put her on this VIP program..i didn't realize I was dealing with criminals or something. I trusted these people. I said...wow I had to bring up the UTI? the vet had no reaction. he must be evil or something or no conscience. Then, he gave her a STEROID shot...(stupid)... I shouldn't have let her. this poor baby has been through SO MUCH :( she has suffered terribly....taking meds, going through hell, and also another bad experience at this office too. No wonder she once escaped...she knows that that place is bad....I was taking her every week for this 'issue'. It's my fault b/c I get scared to try a new vet and scared of costs but wasting all this money on NOTHING? these horrible people...even at one point I was taking her back for a 'recheck'...he never mentioned UTI. he would have let it go. However, let me explain....this IDIOT put her on clavamox. I had a strong feeling it wouldn't work. I had a feeling....its just more into the sick scam these monsters are playing. I said well is this the antibiotic to use? he said "well its the first one we give for a UTI"....I should have gone with my gut feeling. She was given convenia weeks prior and nothing happened...so obviously I had a feeling the clavamox wouldn't work.

the question is...how evil can these people be? this cat has been through hell...back and forth, back and forth...with NO RESOLUTION...its almost as If this terrible evil vet office enjoys torturing pets... to me she has been tortured....its almost like shes a guinea pig just being used to dose up with different meds...and tests...disgusting people. Once I finally realized...wow....its a scam...I was SO upset...but I thought...ok let me religiously give this clavamox HOPING it would clear up. However....it hasn't :( shes been urinating in a room and is in distress.  so now....I don't know what to do. Im looking for suggestions on either home remedies or other remedies. If need be I will take her to another vet....of course. But ive spent 1000 on this credit card and my parents monitor it its in their name and they are angry about it. I also plan to attempt to dispute most of the charges as semi fraudulent for the pain and hell we've been through. My concern now is that this poor angel is still suffering because of these monsters .....it is animal torture and these criminals should be held liable. im so mad at myself for being so stupid....ignorant naïve even KNOWING. so I feel her purposely gave her the clavamox...and I could tell...he knew, knowing it wouldn't help. On the "treatment plan" this egotistical monster wrote "urine culture sample 100.00"...to test what kind of bacteria.....I think the goal was....you've paid 1000.00 already...to have your cat tortured by us...now if you REALLY want to help her...get tested...its another 100.00....on tpo of the 125.00 for this visit. if not, take the clavamox and watch her suffer some more. I thought maybe she was getting better but she isn't :(((  to take her to another vet...would mean....50.00 plus 50.00 plus meds, plus culture plus....who knows. I know i'll do it....or im going to this vet with my mother to talk to these criminals about what they've done to our cat....and that if they don't give us a free culture and prescription antibiotics well we'll dispute all the charges....these people are worse than the worst banfield.....they are monsters liars criminals. im so upset frustrated....

he diagnosed her with bacterial cystitis....and claimed there were 'bacteria floating around"...is there anyway to do your own culture test or home tests to test for bacterial strains in determining which antibiotic is best? any REALLY good home remedies that work? cranberry, colloidal silver...I don't know...

I want to cry that shes been suffering for months now....and these criminals have gotten paid money to torture her....

Actually Clavamox is one of the antibiotics that are given for a bacterial UTI.  A cat can also get a UTI from stress.  My cat with chronic digestive issues had one which I think was caused by the stress from the IBD flares.  A steroid is what is normally given for chronic digestive issues of unknown origins.

I do think that the vet that you are taking your cat to isn't very good but in his defense these digestive issues can be very difficult to diagnose.  The UTI could well be an offshoot of something else and caused by stress from being sick.

I can feel your pain that it took so long to do an urinalysis and get a diagnosis, but at this point, given that Covenia and Clavamox didn't work, I think a culture & sensitivity test does need to be done (7 days after antibiotics) to determine which bacteria are present and which antibiotics will be effective. You can have this done at your current vet's or find another vet, but this test is sent out to an outside lab anyway.

I would seek a second opinion at another vet's office.  Ask your friends who they take their pets to and go to one that's highly recommended.  You need to get some help for your girl.  Did the vet discuss diet changes or anything like that?

OK this sounds bad but beating yourself up isn't going to fix anything.  Calm down and approach this methodically.  First you need to find a good vet.  Talk to people who should know, professional dog handlers, obedience class instructors, groomers, maybe the police dog handler.  Your local shelter or ASPCA, Humane society may be able to advise you.  These people know others and are tapped into larger community of animal owners and professionals.   They hear who is good and who isn't.  You should tell them about your experience but don't be surprised if they have already heard about them.  I know that most of these are dog people but if a vet is good with dogs, they are probably good with cats too.

I've been through a lot of UTIs and I know they're a pain.  Not only have I had cats with UTIs but also bladder stones and unfortunately one with bladder cancer.  Don't shy away from testing.  You may have to run several urinalysis test if it is a persistent infection.  Remember we are running into more antibiotic resistant bacteria these days and you may have to try a few different antibiotics until you find one effective against your bug.

Finally when you get this under control you need to stop it from coming back.  In my experience most UTIs are caused by struvite crystals and those are caused by urine that is too alkali and too concentrated.  The concentration is due to not getting enough water.  Cats are not natural water drinkers, they get most of their water from food.  If your feeding dry food your cat is probably not getting enough water.  I feed a combination of high quality dry and canned food and add water to both.  My vet says the more water the better. Your cat may not like watered down dry food.  In that case try mixing the canned and watered down dry then sprinkling a little dry on top.  Every cat is different but this has worked with about 75% of the cats I've served.  Don't leave dry kibble out, make the cat conform to your feeding schedule.  Remember, cats are designed to go days without food so they may resist at first but they'll come around.  This will allow you to presoak the dry food if that is the route you choose.  Nothing wrong with all canned.

To acidify the urine there is a product called uroeze made specifically for that purpose.  It comes in chewable tablets that cost $30 to $40 a bottle.  I don't recommend that product since it is expensive but vets are familiar with it. For one thing, I've never had a cat that likes chewable tablets.  Instead I give them ammonium chloride tablets sold for human consumption.  They cost about 10% of the cost of uroeze and have the same active ingredient.  I recommend Nutricology brand sold by pureformulas.com.  It's basically the same strength in a smaller easier to swallow tablet.  I like to use a pill popper. Make sure your vet is on board, mine is.  I don't go it alone.

I know this is allot at one time. Hope it helps.

Good luck finding a new vet.   A good one is worth their weight in gold.
