Matt's just been treated for an upper respitory infection, and is making groany sounds when he's resting. He's eating/pooping/playing as normal and seems happy......but he made these sounds before he got sick last time, and I just don't know if it's normal for him to groan in his sleep(he only started sleeping near me recently, since he started getting better) or if I should worry....

Does he make any similar noises when he's awake? My Peanut snores and makes some of the most awful sounds. If Matt's having breathing problems you should hear something while he's awake also.

I've only noticed them when he's resting...but you can be sure I'm listening. He  'oofs' when picked up now, as his weight climbs....can't seem to keep it down....I'm thinking of trying canned/raw to keep his calories in check instead of canned/kibble

The basement's got a heavy 'basement smell' right now, too so I thought that might be bothering his sinuses. I locked the door and didn't let him down there last night-we'll see if his allergies improve with him not going down there.....sometimes he gets a clear nasal discharge and red eyes, but the vet wasn't concerned because he's otherwise healthy and it's always after a rainy spell. we just had a soggy week

Peanut "oofs" too. Probably a big cat thing. It's hard to comfortably pick up a big guy. When I do pick him up he still prefers to have all 17+lbs resting on one arm, tucked in my armpit. I don't pick him up much anymore. :)

took him in today, and we're running blood to see if there's an underlying cause for his infection to come back. He's got an eye infection now, too. Seems he gained a full pound over the last month, putting him up to 15.6lbs

I'm at my wits end, trying to control his weight, but it keeps climbing,....but with the kitten now in the house, he's been poaching food he shouldn't have and it shows. Not sure what to do, but something's gotta give or the poor guy will be roly-poly by the end of the year

When I had an older kitty that needed her weight watched and a kitten, I did not free feed.  I offered both food several times through the day, supervised their eating, then picked up their bowls when they were finished.  It was the only way to ensure that the older one wouldn't eat all the kitten's food and her own.

I don't free-feed either, I feed meals....but they switch dishes half way through. I've bought Matt some Innova low cal for indoor cats.....I'm going to feed him that, and lock the kitten in the bathroom with his food. Maybe that'll help. I had his weight under control before on that, with one can split up into 3 days, plus a 30ml medicine cup of kibble in the middle of the night each day to shut him up so we could sleep. It's more than I can really afford, but hey-I just spent about 350 in vet bills to save his life, so what's another 20 bucks in cat food, right?
