I have two male DLH (we think part maine coon) cats that drool when they are happy (or so we think). I have been reading some articles that say  drooling can be a sign of an illness. They are both perfectly healthy and only seem to do it when I offer them attention. Should I be concerned?

If they're only doing it when you're giving them attention, I wouldn't be very concerned.  I had a kitty who drooled when petting a lot or when I groomed her because she enjoyed it so well.

My RB kitty Chynna was a huge drooler when she was getting her "love bugs".  My 3 year old Katie drools when getting loved on too; gobs of spit!  LOL

My sister had a cat, TJ, that drooled when she was nervous. It would literally make puddles there was so much. Some dogs drool (and some people) so why not kitties too. :)

I've known a lot of older cats(mine included) that drooled while purring or relaxed. Some of them drooled so much that their chins and manes ended up soggy!

You could always ask your vet about it, but since they seem healthy it's probably nothing.

My 2 boys (3 months old) drool a LOT when obsessing over us.  I joke that they are just using us to wipe the boogers off their faces  LOL

I do not wish to scare you but you should have this checked out.  I just put down my cat Missy.  She was drooling and I thought I saw a little swelling in jaw so I took her to the vet because I thought she had a bad tooth.  Turned out after biopsy it was and aggresive jaw cancer.  Like I said don't mean to scare you and since its both cats it would seem unlikely that this could be the problem but I would check it out. Hope everything goes well.

Some kitties drool when they sleep, or are relaxed, sometimes it is when they are nervous, and sometimes it can be part of a tooth problem. If they are eating well and everything else is fine, I would wait until their next regular vet appointment and have their teeth checked.

We have an older male cat that drools but he is missing a tooth, our vet told us he just couldn't keep it all in lol. If you see anything else going on with the drooling I would make an appointment. How old are they and do they have good teeth?

I call that cat slobber! I have quite a few that slobber a little when they purr and my precious Festus
would literally drip slobber when he purred. But then there are also medical conditions that are notorious for causing drooling. Cat slobber used to mean only happy things to me until Simon developed stomatitis. I would just wait until the next check up as long as the drool isn't thick or creamy, doesn't stink, and there is no mouth inflammation or apparent pain.
