I am so sorry about this.  The dry form advances slower than the wet form but unfortunately there isn't anything that can be done.  FIP is a mutation of the corona virus which is actually a very common virus and most cats have been exposed.  For some reason in some cats the virus mutates and there is an interaction between the cats immune system and the mutated virus that causes FIP.

I read online that not all cats that have it die? He is only 2 he is an only "child" and an indoor boy. Do you happen to know how long it takes? Can I DO ANYTHING FOR MY BABY??? I am not doing well, HE IS MY LOVE I LOVE HIM LIKE A CHILD, I KNOW YOU THINK IT'S CRAZY, BUT I ADORE MY BABY. PLEASE PRAY FOR  A MIRACLE, THEY DO HAPPEN.

:( you're not crazy - a child is a child no matter how many legs they have. Just have to trust in your vet. If you're not happy with your vet, maybe it's time for change with someone who is more gentle in their approach and manner. Awe hugs -

I don't think FIP is an easy disease to identify.  I am not sure an ordinary vet could say with certainty that a cat had FIP.  They thought my cat had FIP initially, but later dx'd him with lymphoma after an ultrasound revealed a mass.

Read the diagnosis section of the Wikipedia entry of FIP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feline_infectious_peritonitis

There are a variety of digestive ailments that seem to respond to prednisone.  FIP is one if that is what he has.

I agree. From what I've read, FIP is extremely hard to diagnose, and seems like many Vets will call something FIP if they cannot figure out what is wrong.  (maybe they are right and maybe they aren't
)  Do you know what all tests they ran and whether or not they took some biopsies?   Have you gotten a second opinion?

But I know just how you feel about him being your baby, and I too would be devastated if someone told me one of my furkids had FIP

It is true that not all cats diagnosed with the coronavirus die...most don't.  But if the coronavirus mutates into FIP, that's another story.  FIP is deadly.   Wet FIP is quicker than the dry version, but both are deadly.  I'm so sorry.  Let's just pray that this diagnosis is incorrect.
