My Taz was diagnosed with FHS and is currently taking Phenobarbitol and Gabapentin.  At first, I didn't have any problems geting his meds in him.  He would take his Pheno in a pill pocket and the Gaba was mixed with his wet food.  Now, he doesn't like the pill pockets so I have to squish it with one of his treats.  He's a smart boy and has figured out what we've been doing, so now he won't eat any wet food.  We were able to find a transdermal gel for the Gaba, but the dosage is significantly less (100mg pill to 10 mg gel).  I think the original relief he was getting from the higher dosage is now wearing off since he seems to be having more episodes at night.  I need help figuring out a way to get his 100 mg pills in him.  I hate having to force it down his throat since I'm afraid he'll run and hide from me everytime I want to pick him up.  The other kicker is that he does not like seafood of any kind at all.  I've tried them.  Every wet food I put down for him he walks away from.  I tried mixing it with a litle peanut buttter on my finger and he left.  I tried scrambled eggs, he wouldn't touch it.  I have tried everything I can think of to get this pill in him and I'm running out of options.  I'm hoping someone else has any other suggestions before I have to start force it in him.  The Gaba is the one he needs the most as it settles the attacks to his body.  If anyone has any other ideas I am open to them.

Thank you!

I tried cheese, he wouldn't touch it.  I've looked at some of the videos but I guess I'll have to see if there's something else.  I guess it looks like I'll have to force it down his throat and suffer whatever consequences.

I had to give pills to my two 5 month old kittens and as much as we didn't like to force them down their throat we had too. It was for their own good so they would get better. I got so I could do it myself. I would wrap one of them in a blanket and open their mouth and drop the pill in and hold their mouth closed until they swallowed. It worked most the time even if they spat it out I tried again until they swallowed. Might sound harsh but I wanted them to get better and they did. Also they have not hated us for it and still loves us and come to us to sit on our lap and cuddle and purrs like crazy, so no ill affects from making them have the pills! Good Luck and don't feel bad if you have to be a little forceful but you know your cat best of course.

One of my cats gets a daily pill and I open his mouth and put the pill in.  I do syringe a little water in the side of his mouth between his teeth and cheek to make sure it goes down.  Patches still makes a half hearted effort to get away from me when I go to pick him up but it is very half hearted.  Of course he knows when it's pill time and that's the only time he makes his little effort to get away.  I think it's really become more a little game or a way to preserve his dignity.  You know cats really want everything to be their idea.
