My daughter is turning 9 next week and has decided that she has enough stuff. (What! She's a kid! What kid doesn't want stuff?) She'd rather do stuff. So now I have to start thinking.

I won't see her on her birthday because of my work hours, so I was going to clean her room for her while she's at school. It will take me hours. ;) Then she'll have a surprise that day. I'm also taking her to get her ears pierced on the weekend.

I know she'll like that, but I really want one fun thing to do. A clean room is nice but not fun and ear piercing hurts some. Anyone do fun things with their kids, grandkids, nieces/nephews, etc that I could use?

What about seeing something of her interest? If she likes animals, then how about the zoo? Or if she likes art, find one of those pottery places that lets you paint a dish or pot or something? Even if you can't do it until Saturday it's a fun thing to do together.

I think it is fantastic that your daughter has decided this at such a young age!

Our daughter is the same way - she's 15 now but a couple of years ago she decided she'd rather DO more stuff than have more stuff.

We've taken many day trips and a few weekend trips with her as gifts; places she wants to go such as fairs sometimes, but mostly now she wants to go to Comi-cons to cosplay. We take a friend or two of hers along, too, and they all always have a blast. She used to want art lessons but now has those in high school. She also loves to have friends over so we make it special with some really good foods for them all to eat, and they watch movies or play video games or listen to music and "hang out."

My husband and daughter are going to learn to scuba dive - she wants to be a marine biologist and study cephalopods - so that will serve her well in the future.

All of this stuff is expensive but it's not bad if you aren't buying things, too. The experiences will be with them all their lives but the stuff gets thrown away.

Build a bear, bowling, the zoo, a museum (with activities for kids), petting zoo, day at the mall (if she's into shopping and all that), horseback lesson, lazer tag (bring her friends).. Have fun :)

My grand daughter's birthday is Nov 8th all she wants is a Shirley Temple DVD ( the one where she says;' Oh my Goodness''') she loves the saying. she will be 13 A teenager that makes me feel old.

My grandson's birthday is Nov 11th and all he wants is a electric blanket cause he always keeps his room so cool with the air conditioner on.

My grandkids are some what easy to please and so for Christmas they are getting  a 40.00 gift card.

I got her a laptop case and skin so she'd have an actual gift to open. She started saving for her own computer when she was 5 and bought it on her own about 6 months ago. Her dad has rested his feet on it so she really wants to keep it safe. 3 years of saving is a big deal. Then she's taking some friends to the zoo. I think it'll be a great time.
