To put them in another room is a good idea. You also may want to get a cage to put the kittens in. It would serve as protection while while hoefully getting him fixed. Feliway products may also be helpfully to lower stress levels and might allow the father to see them while caged. Another useful idea is not too allow the kittens to not get out of the cage or safe room till the kittens are big enough to protect them self. Wet kitten food should be on hand but not use yet for the kitten though the mother should still be ateing kitten food. Do to nurseing and throw out the whole nurseing time. Also make sure to keep the babbies away form opened windows door ext..... As kittens don't have a amunsteam yet till I think 17 days atfered birth. So it is highly empointent to make sure the kittens are nurseing on mom for 42 hours to help them not become sick. No loud noises either. I did that for 3 weeks. Dim light for about 2 weeks or till they open their eyes by them self. Same reason as human babies their eyes are depoling. Though same might disagree it is always better safe then sorry. I think thats about good right now and other members could go over same of the other thoughts they see that I missed or forgot.
one other thing keep the kittens warm for the first few days but cant fully call the time frame on it though but do know new born kittens are not predocing their on body heat at first.

I agree with Catman8.  Do separate them and keep them separated.  Mom goes first! Make sure mom is undistrubed and not stressed in any way.

Also, spay the male as soon you can get it done. It doesnt sound like you were a breeder, so no need to keep him unspayed.

for cheap spaying places:

If you are in the U.S. ,  the ASPCA has an online database.  http://www.aspca.org/pet-care/spayneuter

Or here is a hotline number that will find you a low cost clinic in your area  1-800-248-7729

some  links if you need them to read yourself on:

One from this site:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/pregnancy-and-delivery-in-cats

http://www.icatcare.org/advice/my-cat-having-kittens    ( This is a link to a group of articles on cat pregnancy, birth and kittens.   Read the ones on normal cat birth and on " when to wait and when to worry"  )

Good luck!

Personally I'd castrate the male rather than spay him.  :)  And yes, do it ASAP.  He will be fertile for some time after the operation so you need to keep them separate until she has been spayed.  Ask the vet how soon after delivery he will do this.  If she is unlucky and needs a C-section she should be spayed at the same time.

Possible reason for that is to just leave the cat so it can give birth because cats care alot there kittens so its good that you leave the cat giving birth and after the birth the mommy will clean the kitten due to after birth of the all the kittens. the mom of the kittens wont do any harm because they very over protected about there kittens as soon as they give birth.
