I took in 2 feral kittens that were 5 months old a year ago. They still are so skiddish, will let us pet them but that is about it. They stay hidden all day long til about 9 pm.If I have anyone in my house like painters etc, the male cat will pee on a bed and the female cat is pulling out her hair. any suggestions? Will they ever get used to us? Thanks

Have you tried Feliway plug ins and spray?  Also I have had very good luck with Feral Cat Rehab from Spirit Essences.  It's a flower essence that you can put some drops into their wet food, water, a few drops on their fur or spritz around the room. Also do you have more than one litter box?  It's usually helpful to be sure that each cat has his/her own litter box.  Sometimes feral prefer to have one for pee and one for poop.

If workers or other visitors were coming into my home, I would put the cats into a room that they feel safe in.  Make sure it has toys, places to hide, some food or treats, a litter box and a cat tree to look outside if possible.

Have you ever looked at Jackson Galaxy's site.  He has a tv show called "My Cat from Hell" on Animal Planet.  He has some great advice.  He is also part owner of Spirits Essences.

I agree with the advices above...  Try perhaps also with calming, relaxing music. Harp music, classical calm music, or otherwise, almost any soft, relaxing music...

Good luck!

Are you able to play with them? Play is a great bond-builder. Even just throwing toy mice for them to chase is helpful. Also, don't forget the importance of vertical space, such as a cat tree.
