Shortly after joining the site in August 2013 I thought my cat, Angel, has a stroke on August 23rd. Her hind legs were not moving in line with her front legs.  She is a maine coon with hypertrophic cardiac myopathy, hyperthyroidism, and chronic pancreatitis.  Upon returning home after being out for approx 5 hours I noticed this awful site of her irregular walking and her back end going into the wall.  This was about 12 hours after a dose of prednisolone  5mg.

She was treated with buprenex.  Then, to be on the safe side she was treated with a baby aspirin every 3 days.  A cardiology appointment was then made.

I took her to the Cornell Animal Hospital in Ithaca, NY on September 5th.  After a cardiac ultrasound, chest x-rays, and an abdominal ultrasound, a large mass was discovered on her right kidney, another smaller one in her abdominal area near her pancreas and 8 nodules in her lungs.  Cancer. She is still with me, but loosing significant weight.  She turns 17 on Sunday. 9/29 I am giving her some nutritional supplements, an appetite stimulant, and pain medication.  I am very sad.  At some point I may have to have the final good-bye with my Angel.

I decided not to put her through chemotherapy, thus did not consult with an oncologist and obtain a biopsy.  Her Vet agreed.

I think she might just be too weak to continue.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Awwww, I am so sorry. This all sounds very tough :-(

Honestly, at 17 year old, I would say she has lived a long happy life. Have you considered letting her go to the bridge? It sounds like you have done what you can.

I know it's such a difficult decision, but it might be best :-(

It's a horrible situation.  I had to go through it a while back.    My cat put up with a lot before I realized just how much weight he had lost, and how sick he had become.  By the time I put him down I waited too long.  You don't want to say goodbye but sometimes that's the best route.

Thank you all for your supportive comments, hugs, and vibes.   She has has a wonderful life.  She has ruled the house.  :-)  It is so hard to let go and even think of not seeing her furry face again. I have actually though of taxidermy ......so I'll still see her every day.  She just won't be purring.  But then I would never get over the loss.

Thanks again.
